Category Description for Around the World with Picture Books:

Introduce children to the fascinating and diverse world in which we live through delightful children’s books. Modeled after the Charlotte Mason philosophy of notebooking, this study focuses on the 4 R’s: reading, reasoning, relating and recording. Skills are age appropriate and gentle to engage and inspire children in the learning process. Geography, cultures, animals, folk tales and fables, music and art, are all covered, as are nature studies, poetry and recipes. Literature rich, the authors also provide additional literature and video resources to go deeper. Volumes are flexible for one semester (4 lessons/week) or one year (2 lessons/week). Beautifully illustrated with vibrant photographs and gorgeous art reproductions for the art studies. Black and white nature drawings are included and reproducible for individual families. Quality art supplies are recommended. Please note that a Japanese notebook, Tsubame, is recommended and sold by Beautiful Feet, but we currently do not offer it. ~ Deanne

We are attracted to this curriculum as it interweaves reading, culture studies, and history--among other things. Also a required text from my child's school.

Can Around the World level 2 be used before Around the Would level 1?
Cassandra on Aug 9, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Absolutely. Both levels stand alone. I also switch around the order of countries within each level, and that works just fine as well. Start with whatever continent you'd like to cover first :)

Okay but expensive and lacking
This is okay— quite expensive for the information. They say it is a complete program minus math and LA but I find we are heavily supplementing this program to make it an enjoyable learning experience with girth. Also, there is extensive and interesting historical and cultural information about Latin America that could have been expounded upon. For example, we took a week to learn all about chocolate that grows on the cocoa tree and is native to Brazil. Why that interesting and delicious topic wasn’t covered is beyond me as there are many EXCELLENT picture books (like the Chocolate tree or No monkey no chocolate) that speak to the rich cultural, natural, and diverse experiences one can explore in South America. It just seems heavily tilted toward Western civilization, which while worthwhile and interesting, is not the only or more important story than non-white stories that contribute to our world story :-)

Response from Rainbow Resource Center
To be fair, Volume 1 includes stories from Asia, Oceania and Africa. Volume 2 has stories from Europe and South America.
