Product Description:

Build circuits using conductivity "ribbons" (foil with masking tape body). Using no more exotic materials than paper clips, rubberbands, clothespins, and pennies, students build bulb holders, battery holders, and switches that are virtually goof-proof.

Category Description for TOPS Activity Sheet Lessons:
Category Description for Task-Oriented Physical Science (TOPS):

Children experience science as real scientists - making observations, performing experiments, recording their results, and drawing conclusions. Step-by-step instructions are precise. If your child can follow directions, he can succeed with TOPS. Wonderful experiments teach advanced concepts without expensive lab equipment - only simple, on-hand materials are used (e.g., paper clips, rubber bands, aluminum foil, batteries, and refrigerator magnets). Teacher's notes contain background information and explain each concept and activity. They also include procedural "hints" for the activities - just in case you hit a snag. Each of these modules is a softbound book with reproducible activity pages. Approximately 20 lessons each.

Not Very Helpful
I bought both the TOPS Electricity and Magnetism books to use with our physics curriculum last year. I hardly used the Electricity one because the experiments didn't work for us. I couldn't find the right parts, including a non-LED flashlight bulb. I feel like it needs an update for what is available in stores now.

Don't miss this
I used this unit and the more open ended version in my 6th grade Physical Science classes for over 15 years. Everyday was an adventure and I know the kids remembered the basics when the unit was over. I can not give it enough praise. Try it and I'll bet that you won't be able to wait and try some of the other units they offer.

I have used this Tops Electricity Unit in the public school private school and summer school settings and look forward to using it in the homeschool setting soon! It's great because students learn so much by setting up experiments hands-on with simple things like d-cell batteries tin foil masking tape paper clips flashlight bulbs and pennies While teaching it I found that if I had my copies of the activity sheets made and all my materials gathered I didn't need more preparation than 15-30 minutes a day I have taught it successfully to students in second grade through sixth grade Great fun great learning and a great value!
