Product Description:

A good basic set containing 75 rock and mineral samples, unmounted, in a compartmentalized specimen tray. Rocks are number-coded to a list of their names by category with additional information contained in the accompanying Rocks and Minerals Study Guide. This set is used to demonstrate the major rock-forming minerals; the scale of hardness; and recognized physical properties (streak, luster, cleavage, fracture, and specific gravity). It also includes metal and nonmetal ores and igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic rocks. Each specimen is of fairly good size (most about 1½" x ¾"). A streak plate, magnet, magnifier, nail, and copper coin are furnished so you can test for properties.

does this contain galena as a specimen?
A shopper on Apr 12, 2018
BEST ANSWER: No, it does not include galena as a specimen.
Should I also buy the Classroom Collection of Rocks and Minerals or is it mostly duplicated?
A shopper on Apr 27, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I would say that it is "mostly" duplicated although there are some in the Classroom Collection that are not in the Introductory Earth Science Collection. Many of the "Ores of Common Metals and Non-Metals" ae not included. Igneous, Sedimentary, and Metamorphic sections are mostly duplicated although Talc schist and Garnet schist are not included. Although the Earth Science Collection does not have a "Gemstones" category, all items from that category are included except: Tourmaline, Agate, and Amythyst Quartz. Lastly, Microcline, Plagioclase, and Hornblende are not included with the Rock-Forming Minerals.
I have the Introductory Earth Science Collection(ordered for my first child) but now my second child needs it for his class and we cannot find the numbered list of minerals! I have the box of minerals and the rocks and minerals handbook. Is there any way I could get the list of minerals with the corresponding 75 numbers? Could a copy be emailed to me? Thank you!
