Category Description for Saxon Math:

Students like Saxon because they feel successful in math instead of overwhelmed.

The most popular homeschooling math program hands down! Highly recommended by both Mary Pride and Cathy Duffy, Saxon Math also wins our award for the "Most Requested Text." Saxon math is a "user-friendly" math program - even for Algebra, Trigonometry, Calculus and other usually difficult math topics. Learning is incremental and each new concept is continuously reviewed, so the learning has time to "sink in" instead of being forgotten when the next topic is presented. Higher scores on standardized tests and increased enrollments in upper-level math and science classes have resulted where Saxon has been used in public schools. Students like Saxon because they feel successful in math instead of overwhelmed. Because of the format, children are able to work more independently.

Saxon Math is a great math curriculum. The format of teaching a skill and repeating it throughout the book helps students retain math skills from the beginning of the book to the end of the book. I used Saxon with my own children and now with my grandchildren.

Saxon offers enough repetition and practice for struggling math students, along with a spiral approach, which helps concrete new concepts.
Marcola S on Sep 6, 2019
My daughter started with Saxon Math and completed Saxon 1, 2, and 3. She really knows her stuff and she developed a high tolerance for completing lots of problems and doing them quickly and correctly. My son started with a different math program but did complete Saxon 2. There is a huge difference in their comfort level with math. Now I am returning to what I know is effective and am going to start him on Saxon 3.

I just started this set and love it...I just wish the meeting book came with it. It's an easy to use program we used it last year for our older daughter and she loved it. We didn't use the meeting book last year and that was a headache. If your new to Saxon make sure you get the meeting book!! JS

Drill and kill
I hear great things, but this is not for us. It is drill and kill math. Barely any application or critical thinking here. Way too many problems. My children are very ahead in math but my 1st grader thought the 3rd grade stuff was way to easy. I didn't even want to go back and check it. We have gone to Singapore it is a much better fit.

The Best Math Available
Saxon uses constant review to make sure all concepts are understood. I used Saxon when I was homeschooled and I wouldn't dream of anything less for my child.

I have 9 children and I used this with all of them except for 2 of them and I wish I would have. I believe it would of helped them more than what I used. Using the time test helped them to learn their tables better and quicker. I recommend this to start out with in math.

I have used Saxon for the past six years. I have four children that I educate at home and Saxon is so complete and so comprehensive I never worry about math 'gaps'. Love my Saxon math!
