The consumable Meeting Books are used during the teacher-student "meeting" in which concepts are introduced, demonstrated and practiced. If teaching more than one student at the same level, you will only need one meeting book. Consumable Student Workbooks are used in grades 1-3 only and contain student materials, flash cards and practice pages. The Math K Home Study Kit contains teacher edition and meeting book. Math 1, 2, and 3 kits contain teacher edition, meeting book, and a set of 2 workbooks. Manipulatives are a vital, integral part of the program; these are not included in the Home Study Kits, but are available through us also.

Category Description for Saxon Math:

Students like Saxon because they feel successful in math instead of overwhelmed.

The most popular homeschooling math program hands down! Highly recommended by both Mary Pride and Cathy Duffy, Saxon Math also wins our award for the "Most Requested Text." Saxon math is a "user-friendly" math program - even for Algebra, Trigonometry, Calculus and other usually difficult math topics. Learning is incremental and each new concept is continuously reviewed, so the learning has time to "sink in" instead of being forgotten when the next topic is presented. Higher scores on standardized tests and increased enrollments in upper-level math and science classes have resulted where Saxon has been used in public schools. Students like Saxon because they feel successful in math instead of overwhelmed. Because of the format, children are able to work more independently.

I use Saxon until grade three. It's great for laying a solid foundation. After Saxon 3 we switch to Teaching Textbooks so I don't have to grade math lessons.

My son will be ending Math 2 in the middle of this year and I needed books for us to move into. A friend gave me the teacher book, so I just needed the work books. It is a great deal for a whole years worth of work if you already have the teacher book. :)

Saxon Math is a great math curriculum. The format of teaching a skill and repeating it throughout the book helps students retain math skills from the beginning of the book to the end of the book. I used Saxon with my own children and now with my grandchildren.

Are these just workbooks? Are the lessons in these books?
Corrina T on Sep 6, 2021
BEST ANSWER: Yes, these are just workbooks, meant to go with the Saxon Math 3 Teacher book. The teacher book has the lessons scripted (although of course you can just teach the concept covered in the lesson however you want), and it would be difficult to use the workbooks without knowing what concepts have been introduced or are being taught. Starting with Saxon 5/4 the lessons are included in the book, so kids can do them independently. I found the script helpful my first couple times through, and I still refer to the teacher book to know what is being covered in the lesson.
How many lessons are in part 1?
Jesika M on Nov 17, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Based on the other question about which lesson workbook 2 starts with (lesson 73), it seems workbook one goes through lesson 72.
What edition is this?
A shopper on May 29, 2016
BEST ANSWER: It doesn't specify, so I'm assuming the first edition? Copyright 1994
With what lesson does Workbook 2 start?
A shopper on Jan 28, 2016
BEST ANSWER: It starts with Lesson 73, Writing numbers to 100 using words

Saxon math is a terrific choice.
Saxon math has been an excellent resource ever since I began using it five years ago. It is very parent-friendly, with scripted lessons that reassured me as a beginning math teacher, though I now have the confidence to deviate from the script. Saxon's incremental approach, for which it is known, ensures that my children are learning a great deal of math, but in such small steps that almost no one lesson is ever hard. Plenty of built-in review ensures that concepts are mastered.

I just started this set and love it...I just wish the meeting book came with it. It's an easy to use program we used it last year for our older daughter and she loved it. We didn't use the meeting book last year and that was a headache. If your new to Saxon make sure you get the meeting book!! JS
