The Teacher's Manual contains the actual lesson plans and information vital to the effective presentation of math concepts. The consumable Meeting Books are used during the teacher-student "meeting" in which concepts are introduced, demonstrated and practiced. If teaching more than one student at the same level, you will only need one meeting book. Consumable Student Workbooks are used in grades 1-3 only and contain student materials, flash cards and practice pages. The Math K Home Study Kit contains teacher edition and meeting book. Math 1, 2, and 3 kits contain teacher edition, meeting book, and a set of 2 workbooks. Manipulatives are a vital, integral part of the program; these are not included in the Home Study Kits, but are available through us also.

I have found that this is the best math program for my kids and now grandchildren. I started my kids on this with the 5/6 book and continued through the physics and chemistry texts. The STEM charter school my grandson is at uses Saxon Math and the grades are one year ahead of themselves. He will be moving into Grade 2 and I will be using Math 3 during the summer to keep him on track with his math. Highly Recommend this book and series!

Are these just workbooks? Are the lessons in these books?

BEST ANSWER: Yes, these are just workbooks, meant to go with the Saxon Math 3 Teacher book. The teacher book has the lessons scripted (although of course you can just teach the concept covered in the lesson however you want), and it would be difficult to use the workbooks without knowing what concepts have been introduced or are being taught. Starting with Saxon 5/4 the lessons are included in the book, so kids can do them independently. I found the script helpful my first couple times through, and I still refer to the teacher book to know what is being covered in the lesson.

Saxon math is a terrific choice.
Saxon math has been an excellent resource ever since I began using it five years ago. It is very parent-friendly, with scripted lessons that reassured me as a beginning math teacher, though I now have the confidence to deviate from the script. Saxon's incremental approach, for which it is known, ensures that my children are learning a great deal of math, but in such small steps that almost no one lesson is ever hard. Plenty of built-in review ensures that concepts are mastered.
