We CAN learn Latin!
The first six lessons have been great! We have only memorized Latin endings (conjugations and declensions) prior to trying this program, so this has been quite a bit more comprehensive. The progression is reasonable, not too difficult, and makes sense to us. We like the mix of recitation, practice and review. We have used every part of the set except the quiz book so far and it has all been very helpful and worthwhile.

Enjoying Latin!
This is our first exposure to Latin, myself as the teacher included. We just began this program, and it seems very easy to follow and makes sense in the way information is presented. My girls are really enjoying it!

Two years ago we decided to add Latin to our homeschooling curriculum After carefully examining the many options we finally decided on First Form Latin with instructional DVDs featuring teacher Glen Moore While the material was very helpful some of the lessons proved more than amusing As we watched the DVD one afternoon Mr Moore's appearance drastically changed right in the middle of the lesson One second he was explaining verb conjugation and the next second his hair was drastically shorter My son said it looked as if he'd been scalped You know the look of the kid in the yearbook who obviously cut his bangs the night before picture day While obvious the lesson was shot on different days the transition was seamless and caused us to roar with laughter In fact we still chuckle about it from time to time After that lesson we started noticing that Mr Moore's shirt as well as background props would occasionally change while he was in the middle of teaching a concept However nothing else made us laugh like the great haircut debacle

Memoria Press has outdone themselves this time - First Form Latin is an excellent program We have used Prima Latina Latina Christiana I and II with success but First Form far exceeds the others First Form capitalizes on the systematic nature of Latin and teaches the student in a way that makes perfect sense Both the student text and the workbook are clear and easy for both student and teacher The DVD set is an excellent (and in my opinion necessary) addition to the program The instructor Glen Moore is amazing - my kids love him; he not only explains the material in an engaging and fun manner but he clearly knows and loves what he is doing - we think he is great My kids have gone from tolerating Latin to loving it I would recommend this program to anyone - whether you have had former Latin experience or not Bravo Memoria Press

Purchased for my daughter's homeschooling family, per her selection of this Latin curriculum as a very good choice for their needs. Rainbow Resource Center had the best online pricing and free shipping for this purchase, and we always want to support family businesses that support homeschooling - thank you!

I am hoping that this curriculum will be fun and exciting for my 8th grader to learn and enjoy. It looks extensive enough for a University to accept as a high school foreign language class. I chose this distributor because the price is better than Amazon.

I chose this product because it was recommended to bridge the "latin gap" when taking Classical Conversations.

It included all of the individual items that I would have had to retrieve separately for the beginning year of Latin for two children.

I bought this for my 9th grader to begin gaining a foundation in Latin. Since this is written for younger students, I expect that he will be working through it at a much faster pace. It looks, from the previews to be solid. I am also adding Root Awakenings to our Latin studies this year so he can gain knowledge or root words, cognates, and derivatives. The child I bought this for is interested in studying English. We feel this will be a good preparation for him.

I have six children. My first two children have successfully used the Oxford Latin course but my third child has struggled with it. First Form Latin takes a different approach. It emphasizes learning the verb tenses and conjugations before emphasizing noun declensions. My son was successful with Christina Latina, which also emphasizes verb tenses, so I decided to try First Form Latin. This program is supposed to be extremely structured as well.

In a small homeschooling co-op that is switching from Prima Christiana to this. I personally prefer to have all of the teacher's manuals and helps and enjoy the packages offering everything.

We're brand new to Latin. Looking for something to interest a 9th grader with no Latin experience.
brenda W on Mar 25, 2016
We finished Prima Latina and moved on to First Form. It was a hard transition for the first 3 lessons then we were able to adjust to the new teaching style, and all of the different parts of the program. We did the first 3 lessons and then started over after I figured out how to teach it properly. I use it for English Grammar, Spelling, and vocabulary. So far it has been a great program, after I figured out how to use it.

Do you find the instructional DVDs helpful/needful and worth getting? I have no Latin background
Christina on Jun 2, 2019
BEST ANSWER: I have not found them helpful although I have been teaching my kids Latin for several years. My kids also didn't like the videos, so I've been teaching them myself which is fine. The teacher's manual is very detailed, so the DVDs are not necessary.
Does this include the instructional DVD as well as the pronunciation cd?
Kim N on Feb 8, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Yes. I bought this set and it did include the punctuation cd. Look under product details and the list appears incomplete and does not match the picture until you click on the arrow that states, "show more." Once you click the arrow, two more items, the cd and workbook, will pop up.
Is this a secular program?
A shopper on Sep 14, 2018
BEST ANSWER: No, it is not, but it is not an in-your-face religious experience either. It IS a great resource for learnign Latin and since the catholic church once relied on Latin exclusively, it is a meaningful way of presenting the information. Each lesson has a prayer that is completely optional, so you can skip right over it if desired. I am a secular homeschool instructor, but I still teach the kids the prayers so that they are forced to hear this dead language spoken. It is also a terrific way to teach history. which is a huge part of their curriculum. If you are on the fence post, I say go for is the BEST system out there and I have used it from 3rd grade - 10th grade and it works!
