You could just use a regular notebook, but I have found this keeps things organized and tidy... have bought a few extras to use in the coming years as well.

Just finished up the first level. May end up just printing the book in the future as I have a digital response sheet, but I like the bound book.

This is a spelling series that my slightly dyslexic child can do well in and show improvement in on standardized tests.

Sonlight did not offer this product. Would love to see them offer it in future to go with the student book that they do offer.

What is the difference between the Student "Response Book" and leveled "Workbook"?
A shopper on Apr 27, 2018
BEST ANSWER: A Response Book contains only list blanks for the student to write down the words. The lists are formatted so that sequential lists are not on the same page, but are easy to locate. While you could just use blank paper, the Response Book keeps all the information in one place if you'd need to look back at your student's work. I use Response Books because I have enough trouble just getting my child to write the words. A workbook would contain additional activities for each list like: unscrambling, using the words in sentences, etc. This would give your student more practice using the words. Can you see enough progress using only the Response Book? Yes, my child has made enough progress for me to keep using only the Response Book. Could your student see more retention of spelling words using the Workbook? Probably, yes. It all comes down to your student's behaviors. Once my child has finished moaning, complaining, and arguing about the vagrancies of English spelling we've spent 3-5 minutes per word, and we are both ready to just be done.
Is the student response book necessary for the Sequential Spelling classic edition? I don't think my 10 yo can write small enough to fit in the space.
A shopper on Aug 22, 2017
BEST ANSWER: No, the student response book is not necessary. You could just use a piece of paper that would work well for your child. Each day you should use a different piece of paper because the list of spelling words from day to day are the same except for small changes - for instance today we spell cat, tomorrow we spell the same words in plural form- cats. You would want your child to not see yesterdays words. I hope that helps.
