Easy to facilitate
My 7th grade student didn’t need me to teach this, just for final edit and proofreading. This teaches the IEW concepts, just not in the same order as the SWI, so you don’t need to do the other programs if you don’t want to. My student chose this because she loved the Narnia series. I like that there are history lessons tucked in, and that this inspires critical thinking and creativity.

Solid language arts choice
This is just one of the wonderful theme book offerings from the well loved IEW. This theme book has the students writing pieces based on the different IEW units which also correlate with things happening in the novels. The presupposition is that you, the parent/teacher, has taken the teacher course and are prepared to instruct your student in the different types of writing. If you are looking for a course that gives your child a foundation in academic writing this course is probably a good option. If you have a child who is very creative and wants some freedom in writing, this course may bog him down. What I love about this book is that it combines literature and writing into one course. It also includes a very in depth vocabulary study that is optional. I also love the clarity of the assignments; with the checklists for each lesson there is never a doubt about what is expected and how to score the papers. What we didn't love was that there wasn't much opportunity for creative writing. Even the lessons that are supposedly creative are still fairly restrictive. Overall this is a solid course and if you are already an IEW fan you will enjoy this option.

My child loves the Narnia movies so I know she will be more interested in a class that utilizes something she loves.

I didn't use this curricula because it was not exactly what I was hoping for. You have to read the whole series as you go (starting with The Magician's Nephew), which I love, but then we had already started The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe. Then there were three or four writings on the witch. I just couldn't get into it. I love IEW and have heard many people like this particular study.

Because my wife made me.

IEW is amazing! My son has wanted to do this Themed-writing curriculum since it has come out. He's starting 6th grade and as completed 3 years of previous IEW work.

We love IEW products. This year we're trying the theme-based writing and since Narnia is a favorite series in our house, this seemed like a great extension of that love.

I enjoy using IEW, as it is preparing my children to be excellent writers. We love C.S. Lewis, so we are looking forward to using the Narnia excerpts as a backbone for our writing assignments this coming school year. The books of Narnia are filled with imaginative, beautiful ideas and characters!

We are reading the Narnia books in our book club, so I thought it would be nice to use a writing program to compliment this.

We love IEW. It's the first and only writing program that awakened in him a desire to actually write, and a true enjoyment of it. He also loves the Narnia books already, so we are glad this program exists.

We have done IEW history based writing for 2 years. I chose this curriculum for a program I lead at the YMCA so it wouldn't conflict with other programs that use history based writing.

My son would LOVE this type of program and we needed something to fill up his time before the end of the year since he finished what we had planned for him so far.

Is this volume "faith based"? I am trying to see if our 'parent-partnership' program will be able to get it for us......but materials cannot be faith based..... TIA
A shopper on Jun 16, 2017

This volume goes along with Chronicle of Narnias first three books. To our remembrance it is not "faith-based" Our daughter enjoyed the program, She read the books and had writing assignments based on either the books, it's settings and time period.
