This book from the Think Reference Collection provides a comprehensive presentation of the different worldviews It is well organized and clearly presented Before diving right into the different worldviews however the book first describes how it is set up (as a road map with scenic overlooks and signposts along the way) and then introduces the worldview concept (what is a worldview who has one how does it work etc) This is followed by the five major sections that make up the extent of the book Each section covers a different branch of the worldviews The branches are Christianity Theism Naturalism Secular Humanist Worldviews and Postmodern Worldviews Each section includes whichever worldviews categorically fall under it such as Buddhism Darwinism etc The stops along the way into the worldviews are the scenic overlooks where you will learn the history/conception and most important points The authors employ examples from our current culture demonstrating how different worldviews permeate our society I think what makes this book unique is how every worldviews signposts are pointed out that is how each one views: God Humanity Salvation Authority Time and Jesus Lastly after the signposts the worldview is compared and contrasted to Christianity There is a glossary after every worldview and a handy reference chart at the end of the book I appreciate that the very first section is entirely devoted to Christianity and I love how the book takes each worldview back to Christianity It is written for students so an older student could read this independently but I recommend digesting this book over time with plenty of discussion We are reading it aloud once or twice a week with a middle school audience (currently 8th 7th and 5th grade) One word of caution however: one of the worldviews discussed is the Sexual Revolution It would be easy to skip just this small section (just six of the books 220 pages) according to your familys preferences
