Description

Ahhhh, it is summertime. Bees are buzzing, butterflies are fluttering, and many other insects and flowers abound. This beautifully illustrated game presents Hudson the Hedgehog ready to help players collect summertime treasures in this strategic tile collection contest with the goal of accumulating the most points.

To set up this game for 2-5 players, use the appropriate side of the main board to form the required grid size based on player count, choosing randomly from 100 tiles. Each player takes a player board, which has areas to place each type of tile that they will collect. This board also has notations indicating how each tile type scores at the end of the game.

To begin, place Hudson the Hedgehog on any tile on the main grid and face him in any direction. Each turn, the players may leave Hudson in the same direction or face him to the left or right of his current position. Then, they may advance him forward as many tiles as they wish to land on the tile that they want to pick up and place on their personal board. If a player moves the hedgehog over an empty space with a picture of the butterfly net, they may choose to draw a random tile from the bag.  Once drawn, they must place it on their player board.

Once a player cannot land on any available tile using the rules for Hudson’s movement, the game ends and all players score their collected tiles based on the rules for each tile type. The player with the most points wins the game!

This game is one of my new favorites among easy to pick up, learn, and play games. The artwork and components are well made and beautiful. It has enough strategy to keep the entire age range of players engaged and it fits a nice game playtime of 30-45 minutes. ~ Marsha

Publisher's Description of Butterfly Game

Players move the hedgehog around the board collecting butterflies. However, some are worth more than others. Players need to watch out! Catching a wasp means losing points. Watch carefully to make sure that you do not give your opponent a good tile when it is their turn.

Butterfly can be played easily with families and children but can also be enjoyed by veteran game players who are looking for a fast filler game.
