Category Description for U.S. History: People And Events

Students read a page of text then complete an activity. The activities (one page long as well) are a variety of graphic organizers requiring the reader to recall main points and put them into their own words. Sometimes they will compare/contrast, categorize information, distinguish fact from opinion, and more. It is fantastic preparation for the reading portion of any standardized testing! The reading portions cover historical persons and events and are rather interesting I thought. These would be a great supplement to an American history curriculum, or an addition to a unit study you have created. It provides some content to work with that could lead to further research on the part of the student. I thought it was clever to have the graphic organizers on the back side of the reading which requires more thought processing than just looking for rote answers to boring questions. By the way, when the 2nd book says current, they mean up to Donald Trump being elected President in 2016. Answers are in the back (though some will vary, this is helpful) as are the CC standards. Reproducible for classroom/home use only. SC, 94pp ~ Sara
