Description

The High-Interest/Low-Vocabulary designation makes this series a practical option for special needs adults learning life skills. Most topics are best used with older high school students as they deal with more “adult” topics including sex. The coverage is very minimal, but they do discuss living with a partner (unmarried) on a couple of pages. While sensitive, such topics are presented with room for a parent to insert their own views and values – but this book is secular. The publisher creates materials for use in secular (not Christian or religious), often public-school-type settings.

Category Description for Real World Life Skills

With 2021 skills in mind, students work through topics often difficult to teach: relationships, coping skills, negotiation skills, debt management, organization, accountability, etc. The workbook format makes heavy questions seem very straight forward. Students could also work independently, but the content begs to be discussed with an adult afterwards. These would be helpful for the older, struggling learner to gain confidence in a variety of life situations. Reading level is about grade 6, but much of the content is going to be beyond the middle-school maturity level.

NOTE TO PARENTS: The High-Interest/Low-Vocabulary designation makes this series a practical option for special needs adults learning life skills. Most topics are best used with older high school students as they deal with more “adult” topics including sex. The coverage is very minimal, but they do discuss living with a partner (unmarried) on a couple of pages under Self-Sustainability Skills - Healthy Relationships. ~Sara
