Can be hard to read, but still enjoyable
I read this book out loud to my 8 yr old daughter over the course of a few weeks. We started reading it because Faraday had difficulties with his speech and English grammar, and we were interested in that. The first several chapters covering his childhood and how he basically gave himself an education were great. My daughter was super into it and always asked to read more. The second half of the book was harder to read. Lots of detail is given about experiments but not as much focus on Michael's personal life. We plowed through it, but not knowing very much about chemistry made some parts tedious. Still, I found myself feeling emotional reading about the end of his life. I'm glad we took the time to read it, and it inspired me to continue on with my own re-education. I would give it 3.5 stars.
