I am using this program with my children ages 7 and 5 and have been very pleased with it as a gentle introduction to the Greek language The book consists of 30 chapters designed to be completed at a pace of one chapter per week The Greek alphabet is introduced in the first chapter together with an alphabet song and a chant emphasizing the sounds made by each letter Mastery of the alphabet is not expected at this point however as letters are introduced at a rate of approximately 1 per chapter throughout the course This course emphasizes oral work making it appropriate for children who are not yet competent readers or writers It can easily be adapted for older children however perhaps by doing more alphabet work early on then having the children read and write the vocabulary words New words are introduced at the rate of 5 or 6 per lesson and every lesson includes a song or chant to teach and reinforce the vocabulary for that lesson It is the songs that set this program apart as they make memorizing new vocabulary so much easier--and children enjoy singing them Throughout the book you have the choice of using modern or ancient (koine) pronunciation and the CD includes tracks for both I do have one quibble with the CD: the pronunciation on the CD does not exactly match that in the book The differences are relatively minor (o is called o-MY-cron on the CD but the book says it should be o-ME-cron etc)--definitely not critical but it would be nice if they were consistent Don't expect to learn much in the way of grammar from this course but it is an excellent way to introduce Greek letters and vocabulary to young children (or not so young mothers who need a jump start!) in a fun and memorable manner
