Love Usborne Books
I purchased this book to correspond with our Story of the World curriculum. I love pretty much any Usborne book. My kids pick these up and can read them for hours even outside of homeschooling.

My daughter loves to read facts, so I feel it will be a good addition to her collection.

History of the World cross referenced to this book.

Planning to use this resource along with The Story of the World Vol. 1. Borrowed it from the library and compared it to Kingfisher Illustrated History of the World (an old edition). The illustrations are beautiful. Although Kingfisher seems to have more informational text, I am sure the Usborne Encyclopedia will be a very fun resource as well.

Showed my daughter samples of many different world history encyclopedias, and she liked the looks of this one best. She's a reluctant reader, and the breakup of text with photos and graphics appeals to her.

I have been "eyeing" this book for quite some time and the bargain bin price was much much lower than other websites (even others that sell used books). I have ordered bargain books before from rainbow and they usually look new except for the smallest dent or scratch.

This is a must have for the REAL Oddyssey Ancient Civilizations curriculum. It is also highly recommended and has great reviews.

We are using The Well-Trained Mind as a guide and this was one of the history texts that was suggested to be used in conjunction w/ SOTW.
Jenni L on Jul 5, 2016
I chose this encyclopedia because it looked eye catching enough for younger students and thorough enough for older students.
Tanya E on Jul 2, 2016
I am a secular homeschooler and this is the best history book you can get that is secular.

For what grade levels is this resource?
A shopper on Jul 17, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Grade level 3 and up.
Does this encyclopedia explain anything having to do with evolution?
JoC105 on Apr 19, 2016
BEST ANSWER: This encyclopedia does assume evolution. If this is not your belief, you either need to skip those pages or stop and explain what much of the world believes and why you believe differently. I have taken the latter route. It is a wonderful resource despite its clear bias. The links are great and really help fill out any course. I love this book and would highly recommend it.
Are the paperback versions well made? I was interested in the hardcover, but it is out of stock.
A shopper on Feb 12, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes, the paperback is quite well made. The cover is dense and the pages are thicker than say a magazine. The pages so far have withstood my three children and remain looking brand new!
How does The Usborne Book of World History differ from The Usborne Encyclopedia of World History?
A shopper on Jan 10, 2016
Encyclopedia of World History pb (Usborne)
Encyclopedia of World History pb (Usborne)
Book of World History (Usborne)
Book of World History (Usborne)
BEST ANSWER: The Encyclopedia is targeting a slightly older audience than the Book. The Encyclopedia includes a large section - about 100 pages - of prehistory that is covered in just a few pages in the Book. The Encyclopedia provides a broader perspective. For instance, the Encyclopedia in the section on the Romans includes two pages each on The Rise of Rome, The Roman Army, Life in a Roman Town, Fun and Games,The Spread of Christianity, and The Fall of Rome. The Book has two pages each on The Rise of Rome, Life in the Roman Empire, and Romans and Barbarians. There is overlap of content and occasionally graphics but, in general, the Book is more cartoonish and the Encyclopedia has more detailed drawings and artifact pictures. The Encyclopedia is 7.5 x 9.5, pb, 414 pgs. The Book is 8.75 x 11, hb, 194 pgs.
