My child has had a hard time learning to read. He does well with this curriculum but we do go slower than the suggested pace.

I have used All About Reading levels 1 and 2 with my adopted children. They arrived in February 2015 at ages 7 and 8 with no knowledge of reading. They have both advanced so much in such a short time using this curriculum.

I bought the manual and books from an individual, but she did not have the cards. I have multiple students, so the activity book will be used eventually.

Currently using AAR level 1. It's going great. Saw a sample of level 2, I love the hands on activity pages, they are fun and so valuable, but wondering if the higher levels incorporate any workbook pages that the child can practice puting their new skills down on paper? Been using some phonics pages from another program for now.

BEST ANSWER: Hi, we just finished AAR 4 (with my almost 8 year old) and have come entirely through the program starting with AAR Pre-level. All the levels have fun activities pages that deal with the reading skills activities they are learning and the higher levels also incorporate activities dealing with reading topics such as idioms, acrostics, character development, internal/external protagonist, sequencing events, comparing/contrasting characters. If you are looking for something outside of reading such as handwriting of such words that you are coming across in reading, I would recommend pairing with All About Spelling. I might not completely understand your question, but I hope that this knowledge of the upper part of the program is helpful. For grammar, I use Fix-It grammar book 1 starting in 1st grade as my students are headed toward Classical Conversations Essentials in the fourth grade. Probably not for everyone that early on, but I have found that one sentence a day to be a rich experience in vocabulary development, dictionary skills, spelling recognition, as well as drawing illustrations to go with each student hand-written page. My daughter just finished her “2nd grade year” and had finished The Nose Tree and half of book 2, Robin Hood, and will finish that next year before starting CC Essentials in the 4th grade. She started handwriting at the beginning of 1st grade, so her first book starts in print and shows her progress in handwriting development as she moves towards smaller cursive writing in the book she is in now. It is a neat treasure from each year. I add this because it is also language arts and I am not sure what skills you are looking to practice with your child. Blessings on your homeschool journey!
