Educational and Fun
My boys are really enjoying this book. It has a good balance of projects and informational facts to introduce new geographic areas.

Our family has fallen in love with Geography Through Art My 9 and 7 year girls are project-based learners and they love art so when I needed something to supplement our countries and cultures curriculum this seemed to be the natural choice You can use the projects in this book to supplement ANY geography curriculum and for ANY age group I've used this book with my 14 year old brother and my elementary aged daughters (though not together) There is a wide variety of projects for many of the countries They range in difficulty from simple (for the young or non-hands-on child) to elaborate (older child or project lover) Most projects only need the supplies listed in the front of the book There are however projects that do require an odd item or an item you wouldn't normally have on hand but you can pick up at any craft store Some projects require you to print the reproducible pages in the back on the book While it does require some teacher prep (especially for young students) the results are well worth it Also while you're making a country related project you can learn a mini-art lesson When we did the paper version of Matryoshka dolls (Russian nesting dolls and their favorite project so far) we got a lesson in folk art When my little brother and I did the earth in colored chalk and black construction paper we got a lesson in positive and negative space I've never taken an art class in my life so this was as interesting to me as it was them I definitely feel the book is worth the price especially when if you are planning to use this for a multi-aged group of kids I can see this easily translated into a co-op setting as well We love Geography Through Art and it has become part of my permanent library

While perusing the Internet to try to find a way to make geography a bit more fun for ALL our children (two 4th graders an 8th and a 9th grader) I stumbled upon "Geography Through Art: International Art Projects for Kids" and thought I'd give it a try My children have always been creative and all love to draw and design things We soon discovered this book is the perfect fit for us I can use the book to teach all the children and learn many artistic terms while learning geography Of course all the easy-to-do projects make for a plus in that their creative juices never tire of flowing and they have new challenges (and all the artwork to display!) I highly recommend this resource and especially find it helpful for teaching multiple children I cannot wait to try another book in this series and neither can my children!

Teaching Geography Through Art is one of the best resources I have used in my seven years homeschooling This year it is the core of my geography and art curriculums for my 4th 6th and 10th grade children What a time saver! The spiral bound 139 page book is printed in black and white making photocopying easy and economical and the dozens of art lessons are easily adaptable to all skill levels Even my 11-year-old son who usually cringes at art projects is enjoying this book The only additional materials we are using are an atlas an almanac and easily obtainable art supplies If you're looking for a way to make geography more exciting this book fills that need In fact I plan on using another book in the series Teaching American History Through Art next year!
