Description

Bridge the gap between faith and science with this consumable book on light. Author, Suzanne Shera, brings to light the study of reflection, refraction, light waves, electromagnetism, and color, all while interweaving the Word of God and our need for the Light of the World in our life. Each chapter has a few pages of teaching and instruction, followed by interactive labs to put what you are learning into practice. Labs can be done with common household items. After the experiments comes spiritual formation work. Students dive into scriptural studies that are loosely tied to the light lessons being learned. For example, when learning about reflection the spiritual formation studies focus on how the Word of God reflects God. This would make a great addition to a Science VBS program or even a youth group study. 113 pgs, pb. ~Rebecca

Publisher's Description of Lightlab

Lightlab is an ideal book for children between ages 8 and 11 to teach them about the nature of light and Jesus as the light of the world. It consists of twelve lessons on the characteristics of light, with engaging hands-on activities and Bible studies.

Throughout the book, the ideas of light science and Christianity are sequential and build on the previous chapter to maintain continuity. Children will learn about light sources and their electromagnetic nature, the ways light travels, shadow formations, reflection and refraction, the colors of light, and more. An addition: They will also enjoy much history and various glimpses from the lives of scientists Michael Faraday and James Maxwell, who were devout Christians.

The Bible studies revolve around God as the Creator and His plan for mankind through Christ Jesus. They explain our sinful nature and our need for a relationship with God. They emphasize the importance of reading God's Word to know who He is, how He wants us to live, and how we can enlarge His kingdom by being salt and light so the whole world will know that He is Lord.
