A worthwhile investment for my children
I’ve taught my firstborn with BFIAR and I just purchased a new manual (as we left our old one in another country). I can’t say enough good things about this program. It’s attached to some of the best children’s literature that my son has grown to love so much and the lessons are rich yet simple, graceful and naturally derived—it’s like Grandma reading to you. Can’t wait to start BFIAR with my little girl!

Not challenging enough for older toddlers
There are some good activities for the books, but it is far below the level I was expecting. I feel it is not engaging enough for my two year old and my four year old needs more challenging activities than it suggests. I do appreciate how the author uses one book to do activities in a range of subjects (language, science, etc.).

not what I expected
Contacted the company to ask if I could return this material, never heard back from them. As a retired teacher I was disappointed in this "curriculum guide". Maybe my expectations were too high, but this is simply a guide, I wouldn't refer to it as a curriculum.

Great intro to learning
This book is great. I currently use it with my 3 year old and my 18 month old sometimes sit in and listen. I love the simple approach to teaching my kids things. I've seen first hand how much both boys have picked up simply by doing things with them that they already enjoy.

Before Five in a Row
This is an excellent resource for young children and their families when the focus is on a gentle, nurturing introduction to "school."
The format and open-ended ideas support authentic, natural learning that can easily include all family members. We like Before Five in a Row!

Worthwhile purchase
Fun stories with simple extension activity ideas. My 2yo and 4yo have been enjoying it. It's great to have everything "right there" and to not have to constantly look up ideas online to go with the stories we read. Very worthwhile resource at a reasonable price.

This really fits well with our unschooling-eclectic learning style. We can pick and choose books as the kids are interested. The authour has numerous ideas and suggestions for each book. We can revisit each book, take our time, and each time we read a book, we learn more.

Well written!
I am finding this resource so interesting and helpful. It is thoughtfully written and has made our story time so exciting. My 4 year old loves all the time and attention he gets while we are reading through our library books and working on activities suggested in this resource. I am very pleased.

Homeschooling special needs kindergarten child. Five in a Row is too advanced but this seems just right. Low key but lots of good learning to be had.

There's so much we can do with our children when reading a book. Five in a Row is well-known and respected source. They've chosen classics and taken the time to think deeply how children can become enriched in their reading experience.

I felt like this would help me dive a little deeper into the books with my daughter who doesn't sit very long for book reading. I feel she may feel more connected to what is going on in the story. Many people in the homeschool community of my town love it as well.
Mindy S on Aug 15, 2018
I chose this because it was recommended by Cathy Duffy, and I like the way it includes The Lord and also our American flag:)
Teresa M on Aug 10, 2018
I have homeschooled for 12 years. My oldest tests high in reading but his reading comprehension has not improved in two years. I am realizing now how important it is to begin developing comprehension skills in kids at a young age. I love the easy approach in these books. I have found over the years that repetition really is key to memorization, and memorization skills are key to learning anything. Reading the same story 5 times will help them learn they can memorize easily.

Is this book a digital download or an actual book?
A shopper on Aug 22, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I received a spiral bound FIAR manual. The cover was in colour, and the rest of the pages were black and white. I did not have to print it myself. I hope this helps.
It looks like this curriculum is just talking about books? Is there more to it than that? I don't want to spend 35 dollars if it's something as simple as reading and discussing books, which we already do....Thanks!
A shopper on Mar 18, 2016
BEST ANSWER: There are two parts to this book. Part one is 20+ chapters each on different books. It gives bible verses, crafts and activities that go along with each book (sometimes it's nice to have other ideas that I hadn't thought of). Part two are more suggestions and activities to do with your young child that are unrelated to the books (I haven't used this one much).
