Wordly Wise 3000, 4th Edition builds
academic vocabulary in a convenient workbook format your student can complete
independently. Short, daily lessons provide a variety of opportunities to learn
the words, linking reading comprehension with vocabulary instruction.
Within each Wordly Wise vocabulary book:
- Determining Meanings shows
dictionary-type definitions with sentences and explains word parts (prefixes,
roots, suffixes).
- Making Connections helps
students understand word relationships.
- Completing Sentences allows
students to demonstrate their understanding.
- Vocabulary in Context is
a story intended to strengthen a student’s ability to determine meaning based
on usage and includes comprehension questions.
- Vocabulary Extension is
found at the end of each lesson and focuses on just one word from that lesson
in order to develop a deeper understanding and application.
- Levels 3-12 include 20 vocabulary
lessons with 15 words per lesson. Level 2 has only 10 words per lesson.
- Free digital flashcards are
available at Quizlet.com for every level.
- Convenient book sets available for
every grade level.
Most students will use the consumable Student
Workbook with a separate Answer Key (white). An
optional Quiz Booklet (pink) is available with lesson tests,
cumulative midterms and finals, and test answers. These 3 components make up
our Wordly Wise 3000 4th Edition Book Sets.
The Wordly
Wise Home Educator Guides are designed for 1 on 1 teaching, with streamlined guidance for
parents. Guides begin with a teaching overview, the word lists and learning
objectives. Each lesson is divided into
5 days and includes brief daily teaching notes, tips to support struggling
students, extra challenges, and vocabulary extensions. Lessons are conveniently
displayed in a 2-page spread. Answers for the Student Book are also included in
the Home Educator Guide. Also available for grades 2-8, the Wordly Wise Home
Educator Set includes the Student Workbook, Quiz Booklet, and Home
Educator Guide.
Teacher Resource Books are set up for classroom
use and include guides for the lessons, reproducible tests and reviews, vocab
activities (including word webs and semantic maps), options for group or
individual vocabulary instruction, pacing options, and answer keys for the
tests and workbooks.
Kindergarten and Book 1 are formatted
differently with a required Teacher Pack and Student
Book. These vocabulary-building activities include selecting the
correct picture in the workbook while the parent reads a story aloud from the
Teacher Pack. The unique, two-week lesson plans in these beginning books teach
and reinforce words and concepts in 20-25 minutes a day. Teacher
Packs for K and 1 include extensive lesson plans, Concept and Picture
Cards, read-aloud stories and poems, extension and challenge activities,
blackline masters, formal and informal vocabulary assessments for each lesson,
assessment checklists, and more. These are technically 2nd edition
books, although their covers match the 4th edition books.
What’s the difference between the 3rd and 4th
editions?
Word lists have remained the
same in almost all levels. [Lesson 17 of Book 12 has a different story, but the
word list remain the same; and lesson 12 of Book 9 has a different title for
the story, but the story is actually the same as in the 3rd edition and uses
the same word list.]
Levels 2-12 are a mixture
of new activities and those similar to previous editions. Older edition answer
keys and teacher resources will not work with the 4th edition Student Books.
There are formatting changes as well in the Student Books, which have an
updated look. Books 2 and 3 still have 15 lessons (10 words per lesson), and
Books 4-12 still have 20 lessons (15 words per lesson).
