Silver and Gold Game
What a nice, quick flip and write challenge! As treasure hunters exploring different islands, players compete to finish as many Treasure Cards as possible while using strategy to score with coins, palm trees and matching bonus cards. There are two basic types of cards used in gameplay: Players first choose two Treasure Cards that they complete by crossing out squares with dry erase markers to earn game points. Expedition cards display the shapes that players use to fill in their Treasure Cards. In addition, each player receives a scorecard to track coins, palm trees and for final game scoring. Finally, a central counter card keeps track of game rounds and designates trophy awards that players earn as they cross out each group of four stars on their player scorecards.
This is how Silver & Gold plays:
- Draw an Expedition Card. All players cross out a matching shape on one of their two available treasure cards.
- If a player has covered an X, they can cross out an additional box on either of their Treasure Cards.
- If crossing out a coin on a Treasure Card, players also cross out a coin on their scorecard. Each time they are able to cross out four coins, they claim the highest scoring trophy available on the round counter card and write this bonus in on their scorecard. The highest point trophies are the ones that players earn the soonest in the game.
- If crossing out a Palm Tree, the player counts all palm trees currently displayed on their Treasure Card as well as the four available Treasure Cards displayed and writes that bonus on their scorecard.
- After a player completes a Treasure Card, it is put aside for end game scoring and they choose a new one from the four cards displayed in the center of the table or from the top of the facedown pile. Once seven Expedition Cards are used, the round is over and a new round begins. Reshuffle the Expedition Cards and repeat another round. Continue until four rounds are completed which ends the game and scoring starts. Players earn points from completed Treasure Cards, coins, trophies and palm tree bonuses as well as any additional Treasure Card bonuses. The player with the most points wins the game.
This is an easy, starter-level flip and write and a great introduction for younger and newer players just starting to play games of this genre. It is portable, easy to take when travelling and plays in 20 minutes. For 2-4 players.
