Go Science Set 1
Looking to breathe fresh energy into your science studies? Combining experiments and demonstrations which are difficult to replicate at home, Ben Roy is passionate about science and desires to pass his enthusiasm to your children! Each topical DVD provides fun experiments, a contagious excitement for science, and a Biblical worldview. In Volume 1, Motion-Discovering the Laws of Gravity and Motion, seven experiments are conducted including ring and chain "trick"; gyroscope; Newton's cradle Frisbee; egg spinning to test if egg is raw; inertia; and ball, ring and sphere. Volume 2: Simple Machines, Sound and Weather includes 1st, 2nd and 3rd class lever demonstrations; incline plane; pulleys; trebuchet; singing glasses; singing rods; sound waves; singing pipes; making a cloud; weather balloon; tornado tube; and air pressure. Volume 3: Magnetism, Electricity, Engineering and Design offers demonstrations concentrating on monster magnets; a/c and d/c electromagnets; static electricity; light bulbs; Jacob's ladder; conductivity; solar energy; Tesla coil; color; paper halves; heat; engine; and plastic pre forms. Volume 4: Chemistry, States of Matter, Life Sciences demonstrations involve chemical luminescence; an exploding bottle; exploding balloons; flash paper; pH; a root beer float; liquid nitrogen; a single cell; optical illusion; lycopodium powder; and camouflage. Volume 5: Air Flight demonstrations include egg in the bottle; Bernoulli Effect; warmer air; can crush; flight; Cartesian diver; paper strips; air cups; drum crush; pour air; balloon balance; and inverted water cup. Volume 6: Water, Space, Solar Systems demonstrates boiling water in a paper cup; disappearing water; properties of water; floating balls; as cold as outer space; make a rocket; living in space; solar system; and centripetal force.
DVDs have been recorded live with a group of children who assist with the experiments. This allows for a more casual teaching experience, but occasionally the sound quality is inconsistent. Overall, this does not distract from the instruction and Mr. Roy's interaction with the children is an engaging force. The explanations could be augmented, but overall this series makes an excellent supplemental resource for learning science or as in the words of Mr. Roy, "Learn something new about Science, learn something new about our Creator, God." DVD times vary from ~29 minutes to 54 minutes. ~Deanne
