Gospel According to Dr. Seuss

"View God's Word through Dr. Seuss, his creatures and his friends. Once you do, his stories you'll see, never the same again." As I read Green Eggs and Ham to my children, I'm not sure I saw the Biblical lesson which could be applied. This book by James Kemp helps you see Dr. Seuss's writings in a different light. He includes How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Horton Hatches the Egg, Yertle the Turtle, What Was I Scared of?, The Cat in the Hat Comes Back, The Zax, Horton Hears a Who, Green Eggs and Ham, Bartholomew and the Oobleck, The Sneetches, The Butter Battle Book, and On Beyond Zebra, then discusses the Biblical applications for each. For example, In Green Eggs and Ham we learn the importance of being persistent about God's work. Once others hear the Good News, they'll realize how good it really is. Kemp starts each chapter with a Biblical passage and summarizes and/or prints excerpts from the Dr. Seuss book he is referencing. He then presents the lesson we can learn and apply. This book can be used with your family or small group. Although the author pegs it for older students, it could be used effectively with younger children. If possible, get a copy of the actual Dr. Seuss book to read before doing the Gospel lesson. What an interesting twist on an old favorite! 90 page, pb.

The Leader's Guide for this study is divided into 4 sections of 6 lessons each. The lessons for Younger Children - ages 5-8 and Older Children - ages 9-12 include an activity or visual to help drive home the message in the Dr. Seuss story. Each lesson is based on a chapter from the Gospel According to Dr. Seuss book and includes a reflection on the story. Scripture is incorporated throughout so you don't miss the Biblical lesson. The Youth and Adult sections include discussion questions. ~ Donna

These sweet little books are wonderful reminders of God's blessings for little ones. Written in a rhyming pattern, children are offered answers to some of their toughest questions - what is heaven like, why did Jesus die on a cross, or what kind of person is Jesus? These are just a few of the children's questions posed and answered in age-appropriate wording. Bed Time Blessings is a simple reminder to little ones that God loves them and gives them many blessings throughout the day and the night too.

Each book is 30-32 pages in length with adorable artwork by Elena Kucharik, artist for the Care Bears. Sweet little wide-eyed children with peaceful, loving animals assure children of God's love and care. Scripture references are printed at the top of some of the pages, so you can read to your child what the Bible has to say about some of the topics.

I could see this series becoming a favorite read-aloud for little ones. The words are lilting and comforting and the illustrations charming. Answer questions and reassure while reading favorite books to your little ones. ~ Donna
