Writing Trails Series
This course aims to help students develop competency, independence, and creativity in writing through the use of key-word outlines. Students are given a short paragraph which is divided into numbered sections. After reading the section, students must create a new title, define several vocabulary words, find synonyms for the vocabulary words, and then work through each of the numbered sections and choose three or four key words from each to form a key-word outline. The next step is to use the key-word outline to rewrite the paragraph. Skills practiced in this multi-faceted writing modeling program include: penmanship, thesaurus study, drafting, outlining, communication, vocabulary study, creative writing, and comprehension. Modeling in writing is a proven technique to help students become better writers. Each book includes a proposed schedule. ~ Zach
