Reading Intervention: Foundations for Success

As our children prepare for the high school years, we want to ensure they have a secure foundation in reading comprehension and literary skills. Specifically designed to help struggling middle-school students master foundational concepts, this workbook series will benefit any student who needs to sharpen their key reading and literary skills. At each level, workbooks contain thirteen lessons to be completed at an individual pace. The lesson begins with an explanation of the focus skill for that lesson and then provides a reading passage at low readability levels. After reading the passage, students are given a chance to apply what they have read to the skill being studied. Guided practice reading passages with interactive response questions follow this skill application before students complete several pages of independent practice activities centering on vocabulary building and reading comprehension. The independent reading practice section includes fill in the blank, multiple choice, and short answer questions. Targeted skills in each level are identifying the main idea, making predictions, sequencing, comparing and contrasting, identifying fact or opinion, cause and effect, recognizing author's purpose, making inferences, drawing conclusions, summarizing, understanding plot and more. Common Core content. Pages are perforated for easy removal. Detailed glossary and answer key included. Reproducible for classroom use. SC. 127 pgs. ~Deanne
