Jolly Literacy Spelling, Grammar & Punctuation Teacher’s Book is the key element to the program. It gives an in-depth scope and sequence for Level 1, a comprehensive introduction explaining the structure of the program, and step-by-step lesson plans incorporating the student book. Lessons are done two times a week. The first lesson focuses on spelling and the second lesson on grammar & punctuation. Spelling lessons feature vowel digraphs, alternative spellings of the vowel sounds, identifying short vowels, syllables, spelling rules for consonant doubling, spelling rules for adding suffixes, consonant blends, and tricky words. Grammar lessons introduce nouns, pronouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, and the simple past, present, and future.
