The Curious Historian's Archive: Extra Resources for Level 1A is a collection of supplemental materials that correspond with The Curious Historian Level 1A: The Early & Middle Bronze Ages (TCH1A). The digital files include:

* Songs: It is a well-known fact that students rarely forget what they sing! TCH1A includes 3 catchy and entertaining songs that you and your students will enjoy singing in class and even as you go about the rest of your day. The unit songs summarize the key events and cultural pieces of each civilization. The third tune, “Top 12 Things to Remember from TCH1A,” is a great way for students to impress their friends and family with the most interesting tidbits about ancient Mesopotamia and ancient Egypt! The lyrics are found in appendix A, and a PDF download of the song lyrics is included for easy reference if your students want to sing in the car, on vacation, or at a friend’s house. A song icon in the text will prompt you to introduce each chapter’s verse(s) to students at the beginning of each lesson.

* Biblical Connections in TCH1A PDF: For teachers and parents who would like to integrate religious history/biblical studies with their study of ancient history, we have created a supplemental PDF that draws connections to biblical history and locations, scripture verses, and so forth. Icons in the teacher’s edition indicate when to reference this optional PDF resource.

* Reading Guide for TCH1A (PDF): For those who would like to continue their exploration of ancient history beyond the pages of our text, we have supplied a recommended reading list, featuring titles for both students and teachers. This PDF includes clickable links for easy browsing and purchasing.

* Printable PDFs of the blank maps for extra geography practice (also found in appendix D)

* Printable, full-color master unit time lines and timetables (also found in appendices E and F)

Category Description for Curious Historian

The Curious Historian is a chronological world history program from Classical Academic Press that strives to foster virtue and wisdom in students while guiding them to understand the world we live in. Each year of the 3-level series includes two semester-long textbooks. Books 1A through 3A are available now; with Level 3B to follow.

The Student Edition includes weekly chapter lessons, the text, and sidebars packed with fascinating historical and architectural tidbits. There are also discussion questions, exercises, hands-on projects, maps and activities, plus really nice Greek/Latin root word studies (their specialty). The Teacher Edition has a full student text plus detailed teacher notes & tips, answers, and sample responses. Digital Resources include songs, suggested reading lists, printable files including full-color timelines, reference charts, and blank maps, and Biblical Connections.

While The Curious Historian is presented in a more standard format than other elementary programs such as The Story of the World, it implements many nice features and focuses on aspects of culture that may not be covered in other curricula.

Level 1 covers the Ancient World (3200- 1600BC). Level 2 covers the Classical World (1600-500BC). Level 3 covers up through the Middle Ages.
