This kit includes all the specimens and dissecting tools needed to complete all the dissections in the Apprentice’s Companion for General Biology. Contents include a dissecting tool case, dissection tools (forceps, dissection pins, ruler, scalpel blades and handle, dissecting scissors, curving teasing needle, straight teasing needle, gloves (6 pr.), dissection pan, and the following specimens: mammal heart, mammal kidney, fetal pig, frog, earthworm, grasshopper, crayfish, clam, perch, starfish, and sponge. Note: Specimens are initially preserved with a formaldehyde solution, known to be the best animal tissue fixative. The formaldehyde is then displaced first with water and finally with a glycol solution to produce a moist, low-fume specimen which will not decay over time.
This product can expose you to chemicals including Formaldehyde, which is known to the State of California to cause cancer, and Methanol, which is known to the State of California to cause birth defects or other reproductive harm. Our custom-designed Novare General Biology Dissection Kit helps students reinforce scientific concepts in Novare General Biology curriculum with hands-on learning. With this kit, get the specimens and dissecting tools needed to complete all the dissections in The Apprentice's Companion for General Biology.
Give your student greater understanding of body systems with this kit!
It provides materials for the following:
- Mammal heart dissection
- Mammal kidney dissection
- Perch dissection
- and more!

Novare (no-VAH-ray) is Latin, meaning to renew or begin again. The authors feel that science education in our country needs to be renewed using research, scientific evidence and forward-thinking strategies while keeping God at the helm. Students are taught to see God in creation, while learning current scientific theories that support an old-earth creation. Using a mastery approach, students learn fewer topics in more depth than typical courses. Memorization and review are key with minimal written work. Science, math, science history, and English language usage are integrated. Several Novare courses are used by Memoria Press for their academic rigor and are a good choice for students who need challenging science courses and college prep. Each course offers a recommended downloadable Digital Resource that includes assessments and course planning resources that are helpful for homeschool families, co-ops and classrooms. Resources are reproducible for classroom use. Self-created lab journals and reports are suggested to prepare students for high school and college science material. Also available is a helpful Student Lab Report Handbook for more instruction. See each individual course for content and available supports.
Transforming the way science is taught, Novare Science's goals for learning are wonder, integration, mastery and kingdom. Student's will be awed by God's amazing creation, and captivated with the integration of science, math, history, and language arts, while focusing on mastery of the content. Through it all, they will affirm Jesus Christ as the center of all things as they study the complexity of God's world and current scientific claims.
Notes to the teacher and student are found at the beginning of the textbook. Teaching notes include an overview of the purpose and philosophy of the course, teaching and lab recommendations, and an overview on teaching the theory of evolution. The authors goal is to equip students to use their minds for the glory of God, and with this goal in mind, evolutionary theory is taught with the scientific evidence presented neutrally. Students will become well-versed in the theory, while understanding God is the Creator of all things. "Ultimately," the authors' write, "there can be no conflict between studying the world God made and what the Bible says." Additionally, students will study life, atoms and molecules, cell theory and cycles, genetics, classifications and microorganisms, fungi and plants, animals, anatomy, with the final chapters providing a survey of ecology and the theory of evolution. Helpful appendices are included covering Measurements and Scientific Notation, Reference Data, and the Coronavirus (COVID 19). Abundant full color photograms and helpful diagrams along with the engaging, clear textual presentation of the topics empowers students to learn the content well. No labs are included in the text. 504 pgs, hc.
The Apprentice's Companion to General Biology, offers experiments, follow up questions and space to record answers and impressions. It also encourages the student to sketch observations in the provided space. Quotes, poems, and numerous graphics are found throughout to inspire students in their study of the natural world. While the lab supply list is not yet available, the author has tried to maximize the use of everyday materials. The Companion Book will also include a downloadable PDF with teacher's notes with information on time requirements, supply substitutions, and preparing solutions. It will also include photos obtained during pilot runs of the experiments so that instructors unfamiliar with these experiments will know what to expect. Softbound.
Also available are the downloadable Digital Resources which includes assessment documentation and course planning resources like the daily Lesson List and sample semester schedule. Quizzes, chapter and semester assessments and answer keys are also included. ~Deanne
