I purchased this workbook for two of my children--one who likes to write and one who is writing-phobic; I am very pleased Both children are completing their assignments and finding success in the writing process The assignments alternate every other day between copywork and narrations without variation I was dubious that we would succeed with this book but I've found that my children have accepted the rhythm of the assignments and are actually thriving with the structure Their interest is piqued by engaging literature selections for the narrations--poetry historical fiction Beatrix Potter Pinocchio and so very much more My children look ahead to see what we're going to be reading in future assigments and we're making a list of books that we simply must read because the selections in this workbook have made us hungry for moreI purchased the text and the workbook because I was unsure if the workbook would have all the information I need but it absolutely does I've compared the information in the workbook with that of the text and they are redundant The text gives you the information you need to create your own 4-year set of copywork and literature selections for narrations and explains what to expect from your child The workbook includes all of that information (for one year instead of four) and includes all the copywork and literature selections! I don't have any prep work to do! The text is the more economical path to completing this curriculum but I have a reasonably large family and not having to find appropriate copywork and literature selections is a real blessing For me the expense of the workbooks is definitely outweighed by the fact that we are successfully and easily completing writing assigments every day

My daughters love WWE! They love reading the passages from great books and answering the questions The passages are so interesting that my daughters are constantly asking me to get the books; they are also getting better at narration It's such a great way to get children comfortable with writing My older daughter is halfway through book 2 and my younger daughter is about to complete book 1 My younger daughter asked to double up on lessons because she's so excited about moving on to the second book For the parent there's no upfront preparation

I love WWE and I fully intend to use this program with my four children The workbook is certainly an optional item to use If you are using Susan Wise Bauer's other materials such as Story of the World and simply her advice for science and literature out of her book The Well Trained Mind then you do not need this workbook I use these other books of hers and I have plenty of opportunity to come up with copy work and narrations from our other reading If I used this as well it would create too much writing for my child

My son and I have thoroughly enjoyed the Writing With Ease Level 1 Workbook We have just a few more lessons before we move on to Level 2 Last year I was struggling with teaching him to write by doing varied projects and him dictating his words to me I'd often copy his words down 'wrong' I'd accidentally say a long 'a' as in 'ate' when writing the word 'a' and he'd flip out or I wouldn't understand a correction he was making and he'd start crying I noticed that copywork was easy and less frustrating for both of us so this program worked wonderfully The workbook helped me take the idea of copywork and teach a lot about the writing process without the tears My son enjoyed the little sketches on the workbook pages that he got to color in He loved listening to excerpts from stories The workbook is set up for one day of copywork followed by one day of reading and narration The stories were like a reward for copying so we often did two days at a time at his request The big ideas emphasized in Level 1 have been forming a complete sentence (in his verbal answers to questions about the stories) and when to capitalize I can also see that with practice he is able to copy his sentences much faster I realize that in Level 2 he will be learning how to summarize but for Level 1 he just had to answer questions about the story and dictate a sentence of one thing he remembers from the story This workbook made writing assignments fun simple and completely predictable for my son so he could relax about writing It helped me break down the steps of the writing process even more than I had been doing It's exactly what we needed well worth the cost and permission is given to copy the workbook pages for my next child!

A Book That Understands A Child Perspective
Writing with ease is simplistic at it's best. The activity book incourages curiousity in both reading and writing. There are questions for parents to ask the child after reading each story. This helps to be engaging through the learning process and it's fun. I would recommend writing with ease to anyone that is looking to teach writing. Your child will enjoy writing after completing writing with ease.

My middle child struggles with writing. My oldest uses Writing with Skill and I love the way the material is presented. I was thrilled to find a book in the series for younger writers and hoping it helps my "reluctant" writer.

Recommended by TWTM. My son was getting frustrated with journaling and having to figure out what to write. This seems like a gentle approach to beginning writing.
