Product Description:

As parents, we have the tremendous opportunity to share God's truth and the Gospel with our children! The subtitle for this devotional is Ten-Minute Devotions to Draw Your Family to God. These 78 weeks (a year and a half's worth!) of in-depth, yet straight forward devotionals require a minimum each day. Organized by week, you'll find units of 5 daily devotions: days 1-4 chronologically study the Bible. The books focus on key biblical elements that connect the whole message of the Gospel in a concise and manageable way. Day 5 diverges from this pattern to study related writings from the Psalms or prophets. Each weekly unit opens with an object lesson or themed questions. The simple items used for this lesson are listed at the beginning. Day one begins with Picture It, to help introduce the family to the week's theme. Each day, read the passage from your own Bible, and then Think about It (a brief read-aloud passage to help understand the passage), Talk about It (three group questions with brief answers) and Pray About It (unscripted suggestions for prayer). As you progress through the week, you will be asked to remember previous days' readings and also to apply them to your lives.

I so appreciate the succinct treasure this is: theologically rich, yet comprehensible; simple, yet doctrinally sound. Another unique feature is that occasionally children are cued to ask the parents questions. The approach here is that we are all on a spiritual journey to becoming more like Christ (rather than "the parents know it all"). Long Story Short focuses on the Old Testament and highlights key individuals and events from creation through Nehemiah. This book was a 2012 ECPA Christian book award finalist.

Includesbrief instructions for how to use the devotionals with preschool, grade school and older students. Use these excellent devotions to start your homeschool day or study as a family in the evening. By the same author as Gospel Story Bible (#062680). 7.5" x 10.5", 418 pp, sc. ~ Ruth

A Gospel Story for Kids Resource

Companion devotional to The Gospel Story Bible, Old Story New, and the Gospel Story Curriculum (OT and NT).

Transform Your Family with Ten Minutes a Day in the Gospel Story

Christian parents know the importance of passing the gospel story on to their children, yet we live in a busy world filled with distractions. Schedules collide, there is homework and yard work and dishes and laundry, the car's oil should be changed, there are phone calls to make and before you know it, everyone is getting to bed late again.

The Bible can seem like a long story for an active family to read, but when you break it down into short sections, as Marty Machowski does, family devotions are easy to do. Long Story Short will help busy parents share with their children how every story in the Old Testament points forward to God's story of salvation through Jesus Christ. You won't find a more important focus for a family devotional than a daily highlighting of the gospel of grace. Clever stories and good moral lessons may entertain and even help children, but the gospel will transform children. The gospel is deep enough to keep the oldest and wisest parents learning and growing all their lives, yet simple enough to transform the heart of the first grader who has just begun to read.

Ten minutes a day, five days a week is enough time to pass on the most valuable treasure the world has ever known. Long Story Short is a family devotional program designed to explain God's plan of salvation through the Old Testament and is suitable for children from preschool through high school. 2012 ECPA Christian Book Award Finalist!

We have the companion book, Old Story New, and love it! It has short, simple lessons for the kids, but even as an adult I find myself looking at things from the Bible in a different light due to the insight of the book.

A great guide through the OT for daily devotions for young elementary aged kids
It is a great resource for families with elementary aged kids. It does get a bit repetitive if your kids are older and have already been through these stories before. In our family we usually ask deeper questions to our 4th and 6th grader to keep them engaged. But overall I’m so thankful for a family guide that walks us through the whole OT. We plan on using their NT resource as well after this is done.

Stays on target
This starts at the beginning of the Bible "story" and works its way through bit by bit. And every single story is used to point to God's plan for the world and humanity. Every story (which gets a week) points to Jesus. In short enough interactive bursts that you won't lose your least attentive listeners.
