We really enjoy how this explores science as it unfolds through history.

I've used Science in the Beginning and Science in Ancient Times. It's a great series with easy-to-do experiments/activities coupled with short lessons appropriate for elementary-aged children.
Stacy B on Jun 5, 2019
I love the in depth, but quick science lessons.
My kids love the experiments. We went through the
first 2 books, and love them!

We did Science in the Beginning from the Berean Builders series last year, and I couldn't get over how much the simple experiments served to solidify the concepts for each of us -- mom included! My son regularly asked to repeat experiments, even months later, and because most of the experiments could be done by the kids with materials we already had around the house, they were often able to do so independently. I have and will continue to recommend this series to friends.

This is the one subject and curriculum that my 10 year old son is begging for. This is the third year in a row for us with this and we love it.
Amy L on Jul 20, 2018
We have done year 1 and 2 in this series and really enjoyed them. This is the best science for elementary I have found and I have been homeschooling for 16 years!

We are just finishing up Science in the Ancient World and are looking forward to trying the next book in the series. I love having our science follow roughly with our history and the layout of one lesson with one experiment or exercise makes it easy to implement. Thanks Jay Wile!

I am educating my young sons classically with a Charlotte Mason a hands-on, authentic sources approach...I feel that this set may work very well because of how it advertises a family approach and links nicely with history.
Amber L on Mar 21, 2017
I wanted a science book as a supplement to the history we will be studying.
Lori B on Nov 15, 2016
This science is the perfect complement to Tapestry of Grace, which we use for history and the humanities.

We did Science in the Ancient World last year, to go along with Mystery of History Volume II. This year, we are doing MOH Volume III, and we are continuing this science series to go along with it. We really enjoyed Science in the Ancient World and found it wonderfully easy to complete the experiments with minimal supplies.

Chose this as an alternative science class to use at a co-op. Hoping it will blend well with My Father's World - Exploration to 1850.

Meredith B on Jun 10, 2019
Do these books get increasingly more difficult or can you jump in at any point in the series?
A shopper on Jul 19, 2017
BEST ANSWER: In my opinion, each book is independent in the series. What connects the different books together is the study of different scientists during different time periods. For example, Science in the Scientific Revolution covers scientists from the ~1400s to the ~1700, chronologically. The next book Sicience in the Age of Reason covers ~1600s to ~1800s. You can jump in at any point of the series with no problem. It is best if you can match with the period at which your history curriculum is in.

Thorough science curriculum
Though the curriculum is advertised as being geared for K5-6th grades, I believe a better fit is possibly upper elementary -if they're more advanced, to middle school, and even early high school. Of course, this would not likely meet the credits needed at the high school level. So middle school is a great age for this curriculum. I like the chronological approach with this series; something most of us most likely didn't experience in our own traditional schooling. There are experiments with each lesson, which are relatively easy to perform, and the materials are typically items you already have on hand. However, most of the lessons revolve around these experiments so it leaves little opportunity to skip over. So on the one hand, if you've ever felt somewhat guilty that you haven't been doing experiments, this will compel you. On the other hand, your hand is somewhat forced to do the experiments, which can be frustrating. The material covered in the series is rich, and thorough, and the layout and graphics are nice, and the lessons aren't too long. Dr. Wile explains things relatively clearly, and the format is more conversational. In my personal opinion, I do find his writing redundant, and feel it could have gone through another round of editing to firm it up. Overall, I would recommend this curriculum.

This is our third year using, BB and it has been so enjoyable! The historical and biblical aspect really blend well with our other subjects. My son will spout off very "scientific" references occasionally, so I am certain the presentation of new concepts are sticking.

Another Winning Text in this Series!!
We recently finished the 3rd book in Dr. Jay L. Wile's chronological study of elementary science curriculum, entitled, Science in the Scientific Revolution. Our 3rd, 5th and 6th grade children thoroughly enjoyed learning about the scientific findings of the 1500's to the end of the 1600's. We met some of the well known scientists from that age such as Copernicus, Galileo, and Newton, as well as some not so well known but equally influential scientists. As any good natural philosopher would do, we studied concepts that focused on the human body, planets, and laws that govern our universe, to name a few. Being a no nonsense type of educator and mother of 10, I have to admit fun is not my top priority in choosing a science curriculum. However, I can attest that the fun experiments included in each of the 90 lessons showcases the author's objectives remarkably well. I believe the chronological study along with the memorable experiments combined with the age appropriate objective questions at the end of each lesson, engages and cements the concepts for our children. I was surprised to find how much my children did retain even from prior years when Dr. Wile would refer to his other volumes.
We are already looking forward to continuing our chronological study of science with Dr. Wile's next textbook of this series, Science in the Age of Reason.

I bought this science book for my 2nd and 6th grader. I like that it has different levels of work for different age levels and that it is for a certain time period in history. It goes along with the time period we are studying in history so they are able to make more connections between them, therefore able to retain more of the information. The experiments are easy to do and most of the things they require you already have at home. If it does require something that you normally wouldn't have it gives you a list of them beforehand so you can be prepared. Looking forward to continuing with this science curriculum!
