Product Description:

This 5th edition teacher guide has been updated to provide even more helpful information for the teacher. It follows a four-part teaching cycle: Engage, Instruct, Apply, and Assess. A new feature of this edition is suggestions for differentiated instruction. These suggestions will fall into one of three categories:

  • ELL (English Language Learner): These are intended to accommodate students whose first language is not English.
  • Targeted reinforcement: These activities are intended to benefit struggling readers. Or students who would benefit from instruction in a different learning style.
  • Enrichment: These are for students who master the material and need an additional challenge.
There are two parts (books) in this spiral-bound teacher edition. Part 1 covers chapters 1-13 and Part 2 covers 14-24. A lesson plan overview makes it easy to see what should be covered every day. The student text is duplicated, but also has marked teaching instructions and prompts for the teacher to follow. ~Amber

Publisher Description:

The teacher edition provides helpful information for the teacher, including additional projects and discussion topics to challenge the students. Page numbers for the section quiz answers and chapter review answers are provided for easy location of answers in the student text. Marked teaching sections in each chapter lay out a teaching path that engages, instructs, applies, and assesses.

Through a theme that places the student in the role of world traveler, geographic principles and every country of the world are studied. As students "travel" from region to region they’ll study cultures, land forms, climates, natural resources, economy, religions, and governments. Some topics will overlap with concepts introduced in Earth Science. Examines the geography of the world with a strong Biblical basis and Scriptural emphasis. Please note that due to a few errors in the 3rd and 4th editions, Bob Jones is maintaining an errata sheet for this course on their website. These sheets can be found at, click the ‘more’ button on the toolbar, then textbook resources. You will also find Lesson Plan Overviews and additional resources.

Category Description for BJU Press Heritage Studies:

This complete social studies curriculum assumes a strong Christian worldview that is meaningful and relevant in today’s world. It reflects a conservative evangelical perspective and would be a good choice for many Christians because of its Godly perspective. Heritage Studies uses a narrative approach making the books more interesting and provides a look at how God has interacted with human events to establish His kingdom, and give students an opportunity to study historical figures and events through the lens of God’s Word. In addition to the historical aspect of Heritage Studies, students are invited to evaluate concepts, cultural values, economic issues, and government systems using Scripture. By teaching the past, students become aware of the present and are better able to understand and think critically about issues they will face. Heritage Studies strives to present a balanced view of history and challenges students to think for themselves.

Many of the texts have been updated and revised in recent years. Student Texts are colorful and non-consumable. Teacher Editions are full of resources (these will vary between editions), and usually include reduced student pages, teaching tips, background and supplemental information, and answer keys. Newer editions also include a Toolkit CD, which includes maps, visuals, instructional aids, Activity Manual Answer Keys (in some cases), and more. Activity Manuals include full-color pages to review and enrich lessons. Activity Manual Answer Keys are student activity manual pages with answers filled in – in some cases the Activity Manual answers are found in the teacher edition for that level.  Tests are non-reproducible and come in a packet with one test per chapter; Tests Answer Keys are student tests with the answers filled in. A Visuals Packet is available for grade 1 (optional) and includes a timeline, maps, pictures, interactive figures, and full-color charts. Home School Kits include the required materials for teaching Heritage Studies at each grade level, and usually includes a Student Text, Teacher Edition, Activity Manual, Activity Manual Answer Key (where needed), Tests, and Tests Answer Keys.
