Student worktexts are consumable and are centered on different themes at each grade level.

Our children enjoy the topics (garden, space, missionaries, etc.) in the book, which make the learning of the elements of language more interesting. It also has a nice balance of elements with writing assignments.

These are effective grammar and writing workbooks. Every other chapter deals with grammar, then alternates with writing various types of papers like a personal letter, persuasive essay, poem, research report, etc. There is an answer key and tests that are part of this program. The book has 310 pages of schoolwork, and we cover 2 pages per school day. I wish I had started this sooner with my kiddos.

We have enjoyed the style of BJU Press's text books. They are engaging, and student friendly. These books introduce concepts in bite sized pieces, then apply those concepts to already taught material. They vary the work between grammar (punctuation, usage, parts of speech, etc.), and actual composition. Literature is also intermixed.

I chose BJU English 6 because my daughter learned more from English 5 than she had in every other English/Language Arts curriculum we had used in the past. We have no reason to expect English 6 will disappoint!

Is the text very religious in nature? I find that when grammar and composition try to tie in too much with religious topics, the focus on the actual grammar/comp gets lost on my kids.

BEST ANSWER: It is a Christian textbook, but I don't find the text religious in nature. The lessons are very focused on the topic at hand and explained in a clear, precise way.

BJU English 6 gets a thumbs up from us.
I would recommend. We like it as a fresh change from Abeka. Abeka is good, but the same thing each year was leaving us bored. This continues to teach the same skills but with a different look and layout. My daughter seems to like it. We like how it varies w/ each chapter(between composition & grammar skills) I like how creativity in composition is taught. The variety of pictures and clip art on each page keeps her attention.
