Discover Chemistry and Marine Biology through a study of scientific methodology. Children will apply the scientific method, create lab reports, and uncover how our worldview impacts the study of science. Topics studied include mass and matter, elements and the periodic table, carbon cycle, mixtures and solutions, living things and classifications, ocean movement, tide pools, Coral and Great Barrier reef, sharks and whales, conservation, and much more. Students also learn the importance of keeping a science notebook. Scripture study is integral to the lessons. The recommended schedule is five days per week, with each lesson taking approximately 30 minutes. Numerous household and art/craft items are required for the course. You will also need a kitchen scale that measures in grams or kilograms and a pH test kit or meter for soil. Recommended (not required) resources for enrichment include The Answers Book for Kids Volume 3 (item 045069), the New Ocean Book (item 026971) and Dragons of the Deep.

Through conversational lessons, hands-on experimentation, observation, and documentation, students encounter God’s design as they explore matter, elements, the carbon cycle, measurements, worldview, classification, the ocean, tide pools, coral reefs, algae, seagrass, and marine life.
Lessons can be completed in approximately 30 minutes. This one-year course is designed to be studied five times a week.
Children are never too young to be captivated by science! Each one-year course engages children through creation-based textual information, hands-on investigations, biblically inspired stories, opportunities to engage your child in meaningful discussions, Bible memory work, and even an easy-to-do Science Notebook. User-friendly, the Course Books provide everything necessary for teaching, including reproducible (for your family) student pages: appealing textual information, stories, materials list, daily/weekly lessons, notebook pages, memory verse sheets, and helpful tips. Hands-on activities use household or easy to find items (see individual level for more information). Both a master materials list for the entire year and weekly lists are provided. Not just colorful, but beautifully, subtly colorful; perforated student pages include textual information, stories, coloring/drawing sheets, occasional mazes, and dot-to-dots as well as handwriting practice in the lower levels. Introductory information includes course objectives and an overview, along with helpful tips and a weekly schedule. Lessons will take approximately 20 minutes to complete, increasing to 30 minutes in Level 3. Level K is two days per week; with three days per week planned for Levels 1 and 2, and five days per week schedule for Level 3 and 4. Designed with homeschool families in mind, each level encompasses two age ranges or grade levels, so children close in age can learn together. Level K through Level 2 are interactive for families to learn together. Level 3 and Level 4 provide conversational lessons, supporting students in the transition toward independent learning. Each Coursebook is softcover, 3 hole-punched and reproducible for immediate family use.
Items listed in this section tend to be complete science programs with a teacher and student component, requiring few supplements besides science supplies.
I like that the whole day is dedicated to this because it makes it important for the student to build their understanding of science on the Bible as a source and God as the creator and the Lord over the science and this world. Day 5 is note booking and a review which help students to solidify what they have learned throughout the week.
When I read this textbook, I can feel that God is placed directly in the center of the science and is superior to it. I love that my children can learn that God is above science and not the other way around. We find the answers from God, not from science. Science is just a tool and does not dictate to us what is the truth, God did, does and will always do.
In addition, each week feels connected to the next. One week flows from another smoothly introducing a new topic to the student.
I also like that the author shows 3 examples of different levels of drawings for the student to copy on Day 5. It is definitely beneficial for my son because he gets very perfectionist-y when it comes to drawing and gets upset if his does not look exactly like on the picture. This will help him to feel more at ease that he can copy the one that is closer to his level of artistic ability at the moment.
I had an issue with the explanation of what does it mean "us being created in the image of God," but I think it is more due to theological differences that we have with the author, or maybe the way I was brought up and possibly my lack of understanding. It encouraged me to study it further, so I can be ready to explain it to my kids on a deeper level when time comes.
Overall, thumbs up. We love Let's Talk Science series in our house, and it will be our fourth book from the series to work on among the siblings. It is pretty exciting!
