Product Description:

Little Sarah wanders away from her family's cabin and deep into the forest. Dangers lurk everywhere. Will the settlers find her?

We personally own a lot of these books. Many of them are among our children's all-time favorites. That's saying a lot, since my children are voracious readers. There's such variety in this line - they run the gamut from biography to fantasy, but consistently enrich. It is indisputable that every book you read becomes a little part of you. Knowing this, we want to be careful not to fill our children's heads and hearts with objectionable, disturbing or useless material. Many of our customers are Christian homeschoolers, as we are. Even among this group, parents differ in the degree of restriction or criteria they apply in selecting materials they consider appropriate for their children, depending upon their particular convictions in this area. However, we feel confident that even the most convicted parent would have no qualms about this thoroughly Christian series. While books in the Light Line have a "strong Christian message," they are not "preachy." Rather, they skillfully entertain while presenting that message, with vivid characters and strong, exciting story lines. The biographies are among the best my children have read - they have been particularly stirred by With Daring Faith, the story of missionary Amy Carmichael. Series are listed first in each section, followed by single books listed alphabetically.

As part of My Father's World curriculum. I'm piecing it together because I already owned many of the package items.

Sarah Whitcher's Story
A timeless tale, based on a true story, of life on the frontier and one little girl's resourcefulness. I would highly recommend this classic book.

Our daughter's second grade curriculum suggested this book as a read aloud and I am so glad it did! Otherwise I may never have been introduced to this wonderful author Elizabeth Yates Now we own several Yates books for this age range and all are of the same quality with excellent morals and historical details I can't remember reading (aloud) a more moving story than "Sarah Whitcher's Story" Our family (husband included) sat riveted and more than once tears rolled freely down my cheeks as I read Part of this book's power comes from the slow build as each day passes without the searchers finding the girl as you begin to feel the growing despair of the searchers and the family And yet there is hope and faith intertwined To learn that the story of this little girl is likely a TRUE account makes it all the more intense Of course the author has added conversation and details not included in the old accounts but all seems to realistically mesh with the time period and situation The pencil illustrations within are beautifully rendered We recently read it aloud a second time (in just two sittings!) and even knowing the story again I was moved so that my voice choked with emotion This author does not shy away from referencing God and attributing events to Him Does the account seem unbelievable? With God all things are possible! I highly recommend this book!
