Product Description:

Consider these as "no frills" robotics kits for your youngest roboticist! Each set contains only basic components - such as motors and solar cells - to create adorable, personalizable robots with. This emphasis on simplicity reduces build times (about 10 minutes per set), allows kids to build it themselves with no or little adult aid, and narrows the focus to the basic concepts at work. However, these are to be considered "buildable robotic toys" more so than educational kits. Use them as fun supplements, or a cursory introduction for youngsters to check for deeper interest! A slightly more advanced kit for ages 12+. Requires basic soldering knowledge.

Publisher Description:

The Solar Cockroach is a little bugthat uses the solar energytopower a vibrating motor. The vibrations from the motor travel down the legs, causing the bug to scoot around. These little vibrating bugs are essential tools for teaching beginning soldering lessons to students and adults of all ages. This project also offers a lesson in solar energy, motion, and vibration. Simply place the completed Solar Cockroach in the sun and watch it vibrate and scoot around!

Before you buy this, please note that putting it together requires a soldering iron and solder, neither of which (of course) are included in the kit. I think I just wasted $20.
