This hardcover, 800+ page book is intended for high school physical science and covers the topics of physics, chemistry, earth science, and astronomy. 28 chapters cover all of the topics students need to be prepared for upper level science classes. Each chapter includes short readable sections of text, checkpoints (questions with suggested answers), colorful illustrations and graphics, biographies of famous scientists, summary of terms, reading check questions, activities, Plug and Chug (formula familiarization, Think and Solve (mathematical application), Think and Rank (analysis), Exercises (synthesis), Discussion Questions (evaluation), and a Readiness Assurance Test (10 multiple choice questions with answers). Appendices include sections on linear and rotational motion, vectors, exponential growth and doubling time, solutions for odd-numbered questions at the end of the chapter, and a glossary.
This text corresponds to the Conceptual Physical Science Self-Study Online Course (#69873), Physical Science, PAC Self-Study Online Course (#069874), and Conceptual Astronomy Self-Study Online Course (#069864). The PAC course is a truncated version of physical science, with fewer lessons and labs using materials from around the home or easily accessible. The Astronomy course uses only specific chapters of the text for a one-semester course.

The Conceptual Science textbook series along with Conceptual Self-Study Online courses provide a wonderful option for science at the higher levels. These thorough texts are a super option for a secular science text. a La Carte editions of these texts are unbound, 3-hole punched (you provide a binder) versions of the full text that let you take out only what you need (rather than carrying the whole text), and the margins are wider for notetaking purposes.
Conceptual Academy is an online option that offers flexibility, rigor, and content-rich courses for a solid science curriculum. The authors of the Conceptual Science textbooks have created these video tutorials to complement their texts and are a great option for independent learners. These are self-study courses in which the author becomes the instructor. "FYI" pages within the course help with frequently asked questions. There are worksheets, chapter summaries, and unit exams with directions on how to take them using the collaborative "pyramid" format. Hands-on activities within the textbook can serve as the labs. The courses can be accessed from laptops and desktop computers, and 'mobile links' are posted with each video lesson that allow play on mobile devices. The textbook must be purchased separately.
The sequence of these texts and courses are as follows: Physical Science Explorations and Integrated Science Explorations at the junior high level, then Conceptual Physics, Conceptual Chemistry, then Conceptual Biology (still in development. If beginning this series at the high school level, then the student should begin with upper level Conceptual Physical Science before going on to physics, chemistry, and biology. Please note that the complete course requres purchase of the textbook AND the online course. Older edition textbooks can be used with some modification.
