Product Description:

Math is used in every aspect of life and there is no exception for horse lovers. This workbook shows students how to apply math concepts to working with horses daily. Intended as a supplement for 4th or 5th grade, this workbook is full of real-world story problems that will invite the horse lover in your life to also love math.

This isn't a systematic presentation of math concepts. Sections are arranged per the horse information, not the math. For example, the first chapter is titled A Day in the Life and is about telling time (timelines) and doing time problems. The student is asked to draw hands on clocks to show specific times and math problems that ask the student how long an event might take or how long it took to complete a task. There is no instruction on how to do the problem; it is assumed that the student will already know this. A Trip to the Tack Store is about money. Horse Science and Stable Management and Sports include addition, multiplication, and measurement. Horse Facts and Math Games and Things to Make and Do, give horse lovers an opportunity to apply what they have learned in the book - work through a math maze, crack the race code, learn some horse history, make your own hay net, make your own fly fringe, make horse cookies, and more. Pages with math problems to work provide work space and answers are found at the back of the book.

Level 1 is the first in a three-book series that is in progress right now. The book is 175 pages, and spiral bound, for ease of use. For more math activities, students can join the Horse Lovers Math Club at horseloversmath.com. Combine the real-world of horses with math application that is sure to please the horse lover in your family. ~ Donna

Daughter is gifted in math and loves horses. Looks like a great enrichment resource for summer break, rather than more screen time.

My student is obsessed with horses. Thought this book might be helpful in directing her attention to the actual math problems rather then talking about how tall or heavy a horse may be. Or how much hay it eats in a day, week, month or year.

My son loves animals and I try to incorporate them into every subject.

My daughter is a huge lover of all things horses but struggles to find math fun and engaging enough to truly learn it. We were recommended this program by some other secular home schoolers as a way to get my daughter engaged in math. We told her about it and she can't wait to open it up and do horse math!

Would you consider this a full math curriculum or just supplemental?
A shopper on Jul 2, 2019
BEST ANSWER: We have used this as a supplement and a change of pace from our regular curriculum. There are a lot of fun activities that definitely teach math concepts in a fun way but it is not comprehensive the way full curriculum would be. My daughter loved it.

Wonderful math curriculum. It’s taught my child a lot about horses.

It breaks up the tedious task of teaching ‘regular’ math.

Great Math curriculum.
My daughter loved this math. I just ordered level 2 through the Horse Lover's Math website. We are looking forward to starting it. This is how math should be. If all general subjects were intertwined with each child's interests every child would love learning. I'm very excited to have found this curriculum. It refreshed me as a homeschool parent to watch my child thrive in a subject that has not been a favorite since 1st grade.

Great book
We are enjoying Horse Lovers Math very much! The lessons are very practical. I gave it 4 stars because it is only geared towards girls. I am using it with my boys because they love horses, so we just change the stories to be boy related. This does not effect the lessons and my kids are really enjoying it. I highly recommend.
