Fourth in the A Child's Geography series, this one or two semester course studies the vast and tiny kingdoms that made up Western Europe, along with the modern day countries of Western Europe. Picking up where the A Child's Geography Volume 3: Explore the Classical World (#007672) ended, this book explores the tumultuous times between the Classical era and the Renaissance. While having a basic knowledge of the Classical period is helpful in understanding the nuances of the Middle Ages, it is not necessary to complete the other volumes in the series before embarking on this journey.

Written in a similar style to the preceding volumes, history and geography are taught with a living book approach that weaves together engaging text and vibrant photographs and graphics. Students will truly feel as if they are walking in the footsteps of the great minds from the medieval world like Charlemagne, Ferdinand and Isabella, Joan of Arc, Johannes Gutenberg, and Martin Luther while exploring Spain, Portugal, France, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, and the tiny kingdoms: Andorra, Monaco, Liechtenstein and Luxembourg.

While the textbook is a standalone resource for readings and narration exercises, the author has provided a website link to download additional activities. This includes timelines for each chapter, maps to label (and completed maps), hands- on activities that include games and craft projects, recipes, supplemental reading resources, prayer guide and much more. We just finished A Child's Geography: Explore the Classical World and really enjoyed it, so now we're moving on to Exploring Medieval Kingdoms. I desperately want to travel to so many places featured in this book. This book focuses on what life is like for those who live there, how world events have affected them, what their history has been and the amazing places to visit in each country. We also love seeing what people eat and trying their recipes!

A Fun Geography Course
We LOVE this revision. We have the original Child's Geography: Medieval Times book and this revision is wonderful. We love the included Recipe options as my kids always like making new things. The material and grocery list broken out by chapter is super helpful. The pictures throughout are beautiful.

This course is completed in 3 days per week (you can modify to fit your homeschool needs). My son is currently studying World Story 3 and we use this alongside that, tying in wherever we can. The Adventure Challenges, activities, worksheets, maps, timelines, Loving Your Neighbor sections and Recipes all create fun ways to tie into the reading without being too overwhelming. I also appreciate the Travel Log summaries at the end of each chapter.

The chapter reviews at the end of the book can be used as either quizzes or as a basic review of concepts for your student. Each review is only 15 questions. There is also a comprehensive final exam. Overall this is a great, fun course for anyone needing a Geography course to go alongside learning about Medieval Times!

An Exciting Geography Course
As a big fan of the series A Child's Geography, I was so excited to see that Volume 4, Explore Medieval Kingdoms, had been updated. This series is phenomenal; my kids have loved going through it!

In Explore Medieval Kingdoms, you take a journey through the Western European countries as you study the medieval world with a biblical worldview.

This book is set up to follow a 36 week schedule, 3 days a week, at a 6th to 7th grade level. There is also a full Materials and Grocery List included, separated by chapter, making it easy to gather all the supplies needed.

Some stand-outs are as follows: we love taking our time looking at the beautiful pictures included. My kids also really take to the text because it is like they are in the story. My kids love the travel logs at the end of each part, and their favorite thing to do are the tasty tours and trying out new foods.

I appreciate the Adventure Challenges that require a long response to questions asked including needing the student to support their answer, it is a great opportunity to improve on writing skills. The worksheets also have a good amount of variation, so your student will be doing different kinds of activities for each Adventure Challenge. And we all enjoy the map work that is included!

As one who does as much family learning as possible, I have found this to be flexible in adapting to different ages and levels of learning. This course is a great addition to any homeschool family. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a biblically sound geography course that will keep your kids excited for the next journey!

We enjoyed traveling through Europe in our imaginations with this book, and getting to know the countries and their geography, history, food and culture. I read it aloud to my children ranging from high school down to first grade.

A Child's Geography is such a great book. I don't even think I can call it a book because it is so much more that. It is even more than a curriculum because it takes you on a journey through Western Europe which allows you to fully immerse yourself in a time period long ago while also capturing what it is like today in its present state. When I told my children we were starting a new geography curriculum they all said "oh nooooo!", but when we actually started reading the book and it was time to move on to our next subject they said " oh noooo, keep reading!" Terri combined geography, history, and a great story to create this masterpiece, which is well written and beautiully illustrated. From the very first sentence you will be hooked. We sure were.
BTW, the book is printed on thick, glossy paper. It is very high quality. I can't wait to get the rest of the series.

Wish I had this years ago!
I love this series! It is written in an engaging way that allows you and your student to not only learn about the geography of a particular region, but also learn about the history, culture, traditions, and foods. It is also very visual with numerous colored photos, timelines, and maps throughout the 240 page book. I was so impressed with this volume that I have purchased the entire series and look forward to volume V! While my son is reading this for school, I find I'm reading it for pure enjoyment! This is the kind of resource that makes learning fun!
