The Get Set for School program is the high quality program you would expect from Handwriting Without Tears. This program was designed specifically for the preschool years, and uses the fun methods you would expect for that age. This program employs a unique, multisensory approach which prepares children to write. Children will play, build, sing, color and learn while developing important skills. Readiness & Writing Pre-K Teacher's Guide, now in its 8th edition, provides everything you need to understand the program and developmental stages to effectively teach the lessons. Topically, children learn the alphabet, letter and number recognition and formation, counting, shapes, colors and drawing. The writing focus is on uppercase letters, while lowercase letters are taught toward the end of the year (beginning in Week 30) using the My First Lowercase Book. Complete explanations are given on how to use the suggested manipulatives. Lessons are easy to use and there is a suggested 36 week schedule found in the front of the book. Crayon skills are developed while using special pages for scribbling and coloring. Strokes are practiced on "Mat Man" before ever making a letter. Capital letters and numbers are then practiced using a crayon. There are also extra activity pages which check readiness skills.

I Know My Numbers is a set of 10 small horizontal booklets (14 pgs ea), each centered on a number 1-10 that a student methodically works through as they practice writing and understanding these numbers. They are full of charming black and white illustrations and clear instruction. Little Chalk Bits is a good sized box (about 6.5"x 4"x 2) full of 1 pieces of thin (1cm) white chalk. This will go a long way! Little Sponge Cubes is a set of 100 (50 yellow/50 blue) small cubes (1cm) of kitchen sponge. Just right for tiny fingers to erase with!

This is a wonderful introduction to the world of handwriting for the preschool child. We offer several packages with both the most essential and also with recommended items for the program to fit your budget.

A follow up book to preschool is Kick Start Kindergarten, which reviews upper and lowercase letters, or the Kindergarten program, Letters and Numbers for Me.

Perfect size because they won't break so easy. The larger pieces of chalk break immediately. These are already the perfect size.

Are they non-toxic?
A shopper on May 2, 2021
BEST ANSWER: Yes. It says on the side of the box that they are non-toxic and for ages 3+. It is a box of standard sized white chalk cut into 1inch pieces. If you have a child who will put these in their mouth or a baby/toddler sibling who may put them in their mouth, the biggest concern I would have would be choking because of the size of the pieces. There are a lot of them in the box—over 100. I would keep them out of reach if you have choking concerns.
Are these in stock? If not when will they be?
Teshia H on Oct 1, 2016
BEST ANSWER: They are not currently in stock but are on order from the publisher and we expect them into the warehouse any day now.
