Description

After growing up in a Chicago orphanage, Freckles gets a job guarding the timber in Limberlost Swamp from Black Jack Carter and other lumber thieves. He grows fond of the swamp and its wildlife. Soon a 16 year old girl finds Freckles, who instantly falls in love with her. He helps guide the lost girl to safety. She comes back to visit him, and even helps him protect the trees when Black Jack is spotted trying to chop town a tree. He falls even more in love with her, even though he considers himself to not be worthy enough to marry her. Once day, Freckles saves the girl from having a tree fall on her, but it badly injures him in the process. After being rushed to a hospital in Chicago, Freckle's heritage is revealed.
