I really like this series, which focuses on whole regions of the U.S. It gives you a great look at the country as a whole, showing how the climate, location, resources, etc. of a region affected settlement and shaped the area. There's still information on individual states, and even the largest cities in the region are highlighted and discussed, but having the information focused on the region as a whole gives you a much broader, big-picture view. You get a look at the native people and history, land formations, cities, rural life, animals, plants, transportation, popular jobs and careers, recreational activities, famous landmarks of the region, and more. A state-at-a-glance section gives general info for each state in the region, and a timeline, glossary, and list of resources to find out more about the area can be found in the back of the book. The books are full of colorful photographs of landscapes, animals, popular buildings and locations, maps, and more. Interesting, trivia-type information is shared in side bars on the edge of the pages. If you're looking for a fun and interesting way to introduce or review geography, these fact-and-photo-filled books are sure to do the trick. One cool thing about this series is that each book is written by someone from the featured region so they know what they're talking about. Each book is 56 pgs, pb. ~ Rachel
