Category Description for Apologia Elementary Science Kits:

Apologia elementary science is a wonderful series, and these lab kits from Nature's Workshop Plus make it easy and convenient to do the hands-on projects found in the books without running all over to find what you need. Kits contain most of the materials for the experiments, and are conveniently packaged by lesson in the corresponding book (sold separately). There are still a few items you will need from around your house, but with these kits the list becomes extremely short. You can check our website or call customer service for kit contents.

Category Description for Apologia Science:

Apologia Science courses are written from a Biblical worldview with the homeschool in mind. At the elementary level, courses follow a Charlotte Mason-inspired methodology, with lessons organized around narration, notebooking exercises and hands-on activities or projects. Children at different ages can use these together, learning at their own level. Each course is designed to be teacher-student interactive, so teacher involvement is fairly high at this level. At the junior high and high school levels, science courses are more traditional in nature, with the textbook written to the student. Teacher involvement time at this level is much less than at the elementary level. Textbooks contain student reading, lab instructions, "On Your Own" questions and Study Guide questions. A Solutions Manual provides the answers to these and the test questions. Lab kits are available separately for both the elementary and upper-level science courses which include most of the harder to find items you will need.

Category Description for Apologia Science (K-6):

Author Jeannie Fulbright was a home school mom looking for a quality elementary science series that was creation-based using the Charlotte Mason approach. When she didn't find the type of curriculum she was looking for she decided to create her own. These books use the classical and Charlotte Mason methodology including narration and notebooking to develop critical thinking, logical ordering, retention, and record keeping.

These books came to the attention of Apologia and Dr. Jay Wile, who came to an agreement with the author to take over editing and publishing them. Apologia says, "Well, it has finally happened! After years of searching for an elementary science curriculum that is truly God honoring, user friendly, and scientifically sound, we were introduced to two books by Jeannie Fulbright. It's no wonder that we want to publish her books. As one of the parents who has already used Mrs. Fulbright's astronomy book says, 'It reminds me of Dr. Jay Wile's Apologia Science only yours is on an elementary level while his is written for high school age.' We couldn't have said it better ourselves."

Since the Charlotte Mason method is employed, every lesson is organized with a narrative, notebook work, an activity, and a project. The student notebook is emphasized in the lessons. Activities and projects bring the lessons to life and use simple household items. While the author's intent is for the parent to read these books to elementary students, a student with a 4th-grade reading level could read these books on their own. The books come from a strong creationist viewpoint, including sections called "Creation Confirmation" and Scripture interwoven throughout the book. Apologia recommends spending an entire year covering each book, taking about two weeks to explore most lessons (some lessons may require more time).

As they complete her courses, Ms. Fulbright encourages students to compile a notebook to collect and display the information they are learning. She has now gone one step further by providing a format specifically adapted to each course. The Apologia Notebooking Journals provide a place for the student to complete every assignment, to record experiments and to display work. Included are weekly lesson plans, templates for recording fascinating facts and assignments, and scripture copywork in both print and cursive models. In addition to full-color Miniature Books (for recording facts and information and pasting directly into the notebook), there are optional ideas (Take it Further in Astronomy; Dig in Deeper in Botany; Fly Higher in Zoology, etc.) for lots of additional activities, projects, experiments, books or videos, all of which correlate with specific lessons in each course. Along these lines, the Personal Person project in both of the Anatomy notebooks is special providing clear vinyl overlays of each body system. Be prepared to cut these out, though.

< In some courses (and eventually in all) the youngsters in your homeschool have a Junior Notebooking Journal prepared just for them with less handwriting but the same reinforcing activities. These books include coloring pages, project pages, and cut and fold miniature books (same ones as in the version for older students). There is space for notebooking assignments (more drawings, no questions to answer) and scripture copywork (shorter verses to copy either in manuscript or in beginning cursive). Biblical quotations are from the NASB, KJV, NIV or NKJV.

To complete the books all you will need to provide is scissors, glue, colored pencils, a stapler, and a few brass fasteners. The author does caution, however, that everything in the journal is "optional" and work can be tailored to each student by simply tearing out unwanted pages from the spiral-bound book. Serving both as a uniquely expressed record of the student's work and as a prized reminder of acquired knowledge, these books will become a homeschooling heirloom.

We also now offer lab kits from Nature's Workshop for most of the elementary courses. Kits contain most of the materials for the experiments, and are conveniently packaged by lesson in the corresponding book (sold separately). There are still a few items you will need from around your house, but with these kits the list becomes extremely short. ~ Janice / Jerry

From Apologia:Our Young Explorers Series combines our conversationally-written instruction, hands on activities, and interactive notebooking with an inquisitiveness into God's Creation to turn your young learner into a young explorer. From the tiniest microbe to greatest galaxy, all of creation declares His glory (Psalm 19:1), and if we study Gods creation with intent to glorify Him, then we will soon learn to be in awe of Him and the works of His hand. This awe is more easily instilled during the elementary years when a good old-fashioned bug hunt, leaf collection, or field trip to your local zoo can reveal all sorts of wonders.

Category Description for Exploring Creation with Zoology 1:

Birds, bugs, and bats if it flies, it's explored in this fascinating introduction to zoology! The first portion of the book focuses on birds and their unique characteristics. Kids will learn bird anatomy, how they are able to fly, why they build nests, how they raise their young, and more. They'll also learn to identify the birds they see every day and do activities that explore the habits and preferences of different species of birds. Students will learn about bats, some of the most useful and wonderful flying creatures in the world. As they study the physical characteristics and lifestyle of the bat, they'll gain a new appreciation for these creatures. Finally, kids will get up close and personal to the insect world. They'll learn how to identify and classify the many different types of bugs they see, and they'll even get to design their own experiments with different insect species. Kids will get the opportunity to keep their own field journals as they are encouraged to be their own scientist as they observe and understand the world around them.

I don't like rummaging around the house for items needed for science experiments. A lot of times we will just skip experiments to avoid that. This is perfect! My daughters can grab the bag they need and not have to wait on me to find everything or shop for missing items.

Sarah O on Aug 22, 2017
knew we were more likely to actually do the experiments if i didn't have to track down all the individual supplies.
Sarah J on Aug 17, 2017
The reviews have convinced that I need this as a mother of four children, two of which are two and under. We seriously lacked in the experiments department with a past science curriculum because I was always needing to purchase something so we could complete it.
Carrie N on Aug 16, 2017
I wanted the experiment part of the lessons already to go.

Hopefully this kit will make me more willing to follow through on actually doing the experiments. Sometimes finding the materials needed limit my desire to try them.

It is so worth it to have all the necessary items on hand to do the science experiments as they come up. I love that they are all packaged and labeled according to the lesson we are working on.

Having the kit and all needed items on hand removes any excuses for getting the experiments done and really what is science without experiments and labs!
Maria M on Feb 18, 2016
I'm interested in anything that will help save time for our homeschool routine and daily schedule. This lab kit will certainly do so!

How many students can benefit from one kit? Is the kit best per student or can several students benefit from 1 kit?
A shopper on Apr 18, 2017
BEST ANSWER: A family or a small homeschool group could share a kit. 1-2 students per kit would be optimal, otherwise you will have students standing around watching instead of doing. :)
Is this Zoology Lab Kit specifically for Apologia Zoology 1?
A shopper on Jan 22, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes, it is.
Is this Lab Kit specifically made for Apologia Zoology 1?
A shopper on Jan 22, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes, it is. Each project/experiment is individually packaged and labeled for a particular lesson. There is a list of supplies that are not provided but they are items that obviously cannot be shipped such as an hardboiled egg, dried leaves, piece of meat, etc. As a first time purchaser of this Lab Kit and a busy mom of 6, I found it extremely useful and well worth the price. It's crazy convenient to get the bag out of the box and have everything I need in the correct proportions. Keep an eye on your list of what is in the box for each lesson because sometimes I would do a project that used simple things I had on hand without realizing that all the items were provided.

Amazing Lab Kits!
I am so thankful that a friend recommended Apologia lab kits by Nature's Workshop! For a busy, homeschooling mom, having a lab kit that actually has almost everything you need is amazing! Also, the best part, is that the supplies are packaged by lesson, so all you really need to do is grab the lesson's pack and go! (With super minor need for other supplies, like water...!) HIGHLY recommend!

I LOVE THIS! I am not a natural lover of science and certainly not science experiments! I used to skip science experiments because of the time spent hunting down all the needed items and having to buy huge quantities of things when I only needed one or two This kit eliminates all of that! Everything needed is right there and neatly packaged into ziplock bags so that you don't have to search for necessary items It's also easy to just have the kids do it themselves since everything they need is right there! Totally worth the price! I would absolutely buy this product again!
