If your student has not learned to read using an Orton-Gillingham or phonics-based approach, the author of this program recommends starting with the Primer level.
Brief program introductory notes are written to you as teacher; spend some time with these prior to starting the program. Then, as you begin the first week, you’ll follow the scripted lessons. Book 1 lessons begin with silent E, learning syllables, consonant blends, verb tenses, and more. Then students will learn irregular verbs, plurals, and end with proper nouns. Periodic reviews are included. Students practice and learn concepts using the included Elson Reader Book 1. Diacritical marks cue pronunciation and multiple syllables are identified with a dash. Then, the back of this text includes phonogram flashcards to assist in acquiring the 75 phonograms. Font print for student material is approximately 18- point. While the author encourages students to read and write the words they are learning, the author suggests alternative methods for students who are still developing their writing skills.
