Category Description for Easy Grammar Series:

Mastery of basic grammar facts. Independent student work. Lots of review and practice. That’s what Easy Grammar provides. It’s convenient and takes no teacher prep time. The general idea is to introduce grammar gently to young students (Easy Grammar Daily Guided Teaching, grades 1-2). The middle school years (grades 3-7) focus on systematic instruction and provide lots of practice to master the basics as well as daily review. The secondary years (Easy Grammar Ultimate, grades 8-12) continue daily review, coupled with some advanced instruction. The courses vary in structure at different grade levels. Grades 3-6 are similar in structure but grade-level appropriate. Easy Grammar Plus is a course that can be used either in 7th grade or as a complete grammar review for older students. Daily Grams, available for grades 3-7, supplements and complements the EG series by providing daily review.

Each grade level Teacher Edition provides bite-size lessons, student practice and assessment pages, and those same pages with answers filled in. Both the practice pages and the tests are reproducible for families. Student Workbooks include lesson and practice pages. Test Books (available for Grades 3 and up) provide pre and post tests as well as sectional tests. Grade level Sets include the Teacher Edition, Student Book and Test Book (if available for that level).

We have been going through the Easy Grammar series for a couple years. After trying different programs prior to that, I find that this is the best method to teach a rather difficult to grasp grammar. It builds upon simple principle and by the end of the book, the children are applying the more advanced rules without issues.

As a homeschooler, I have a morning "warm-up" on the dry board to review just a few math and/or language skills. I am hoping, after reviewing downloaded pages, that this will take the pressure off of me to be "creative" in thinking of what to put on the dry board. Additionally, it will provide a more structured learning or review. I also purchased the Grade 2 Teaching and Review as it has a different focus.

I used Easy Grammar Plus with two of my children, and we learned a lot. I learned things I had never been taught in school. I actually like grammar.<br />I needed to start at an earlier stage with my next child, so I have ordered Grade 3, and I am looking forward to learning some new things myself.

Do I need the student book or can I make copies from the teacher book?

BEST ANSWER: I bought both the teacher book and the student book and I'm glad I did. The student book is thinner and easier to deal with and write in. Making copies from the teacher book would work perfectly well, it would just take a great deal of time.
Do you need the teacher guide?

BEST ANSWER: Yes, I would definitely get one. I tried to do without one this year, and it was too difficult. Later, I saw a friend's teacher's guide, and I saw how important the "script" is that is in the guide. There were a lot of concepts I inadvertently skipped because I wasn't using the guide.

Perfect for certain students.
According to Davis Dyslexia facilitators, there are certain 'trigger words' that are especially hard for people with dyslexia to read and spell. Would you believe that the prepositions are on the trigger word list? That is why my profoundly dyslexic and mildly autistic son is doing so well with this approach. Starting with prepositions and prepositional phrases is the ONLY way to teach grammar to certain people. My son is one of them.

True to name
This is the first year that we have homeschooled full-time (and where i have had the Teachers Edition) but it is the second year that my daughter has used Easy Grammar. Easy Grammar is very straightforward and easy to use. Teaches grammar simply but clearly. The lessons are short and not overwhelming. I usually have my daughter do two pages a day and it takes her about 10 minutes. The Teacher's Edition is also easy to use. While the student workbook is open and go each day, I do recommend reading thru the Teacher's Edition before beginning to use it. There are many days when there is little to no instruction needed, but that does not mean that the Teacher's Edition is unneccesary. I need help remembering the grammar rules myself and the Teacher's Edition does that for me. In the Teacher's Edition there is also a mention of possibly teaching the book out of order if desired. That is what we are doing, teaching the later sections on Punctuation and Capitalization first. I do recommend the Teacher's Edition.
