Category Description for Daily Geography Practice Series:

A supplemental skills program, these practice books are packed with activities. Intended to be taught by direct instruction rather than independently, most activities will require a map or globe to complete. The good news is that these are included right in the book. No, not an actual fold-out map or spinning globe, but printed maps of the section of the globe or map that go with that activity.

The books are divided into a 36-week layout, and there is a map to go along with each week. The Grade Level Teacher Books provide the weekly lessons which include a teacher resource page (answer key, background information, vocabulary words, and definitions) plus the reproducible Student Worksheets (map, two geography questions for each day, and a challenge question for the end of each week). Each book covers some similar items (at the appropriate age level, of course) as well as some different geographic items or regions. The Student Practice Books are non-reproducible and do not include an answer key. They are used if you do not wish to copy the student worksheet pages from the Teacher Book. Teacher Books are 160 pgs, pb, and include access to download the 36 maps. ~ Zach

We have used this (but grade 1) this year in our homeschool and it has provided a great way to teach directions and using a map. The kids loved it. If it ain't broke, don't fix it- I'm using it again starting in the fall.

I love Daily Geography by Evan Moor because it gives a really nice overview of geography without being cumbersome. I like the layout and the brief questions that are often multiple choice; I have a non-reader, but she can still be involved by listening and circling her answer. Since the lessons are relatively short, we do one lesson per day as opposed to one lesson per week.

Basic Geography practice. Might be a little too easy. Could go a grade up and be fine. Only two questions a day. Mine can do a few days questions each day or sometimes does a whole week's questions in one day. (and doesn't take longer than half an hour if doing whole weeks worth) Or can just do about 10 minutes several days a week. Does get the basics of geography covered for young students

What is the difference between Evan Moore’s Daily Geography Practice and their Skill Sharpeners Geography series?

BEST ANSWER: There is bound to be some similarity in terms of content - this is confirmed by comparing the two tables of content. However, the purpose of each is a bit different. Daily Geography Practice is a reproducible resource that allows the teacher to provide a quick black and white review activity for each day. Skill Sharpeners is designed to be more instructive (rather than just review) and is in color. There are weekly units rather than daily exercises.

Thorough, simple to follow, and great illustrations
The material is very thorough and lots of practice. The answers are at the beginning of each weekly lesson so make photocopies of the exercises or cover the answers and use the workbook as a consumable. My 3rd grader would do the lessons independently and I would check her work.

Good map practice
We are enjoying using this for a portion of our social studies curriculum. This is our first year homeschooling and I don’t think my son had any practice with naps at school last year so it’s good practice for him. The amount of time this would take if you used it as directed (daily: Monday-Friday) would be super short. We opt to use it weekly but only take two days to work through the “week”.

Really Easy
I was disappointed in this book. My daughter thought it was very easy, and it is! While I'd say you need to be old enough to read to do this work, the 5 questions per lesson are so basic there is no way we could take a whole week to do a lesson. We do the whole "week's" lesson in 20 minutes! She has learned basic map concepts, but I will be choosing a different geography curriculum next year.

Daily fun!
I love simplified learning and this book does that well. A concept is learned on Monday and is reviewed the rest of the week. There are only two questions daily to review and practice what was learned. There is also one challenge each week, which usually involves some coloring or adding detail to a map used that week. My second grade daughter easily does this on her own and I check in a couple times a week.
