Product Description:

This volume covers the history of the world, from the beginning through modern times (into the 21st century). While not an in-depth view, it covers all time periods and shows readers what was happening in all regions of the world. All events of note are included with brief write-ups and lots of photographs, paintings, and pictures. The text is very readable, and every page is eye-catching with full color examples of tools, weapons, historical sites, and more. Timelines are included showing events from around the world happening at concurrent times. Republished by My Father's World (with permission of DK), the first two chapters, Introduction to Human History (570MYA-40,000) and Early People (40,000-5000BC), have been removed to make it more Christian-friendly. Following chapters cover the First Civilizations (5000-1200BC), Traders and Warriors (1200-500BC), Growth of Empires (500BC-AD1), Decline of the Ancient World (1-400), Religious Worlds (400-800), New Nations (800-1000), Monks and Invaders (1000-1200), Conquest and Plague (1200-1400), Expansion of Knowledge (1400-1500), Great Rulers (1500-1600), Commerce and Colonies (1600-1700), Age of Inquiry (1700-1750), Age of Revolution (1750-1800), Independence and Industry (1800-1850), Rise of Nationalism (1850-1900), World Goes to War (1900-1919), Peace and War (1919-1946), and One World (1946-2000s). Christianity is introduced with major events like the Exodus, Christ's crucifixion and such being discussed (although usually introduced as stories with no historical evidence). Overall, this is a good look at the entire world as it has grown and changed from ancient times until today, full of fascinating facts waiting to be discovered. ~ Megan

Publisher Description:

This exclusive My Father's World version is based on the 3rd (green) edition, but begins with "The First Civilizations" (B.C.), omitting 22 pages of prehistoric man and animals found in other editions. This beautiful, full-color, 378-page hardcover book would be a great addition to any family library, and is especially recommended for junior high, high school, and parent reference.

I love this book. I used the original for 30 years while I was homeschooling and now my daughters-in-law will be able to use "My Father's World" edition with their children. It is a wonderful resource for completing a chronological history of the humanities. It doesn't go into lots of depth but is a great springboard or outline for branching out into more in-depth coverage and it also covers some events you might not think of (or if you were public schooled like me) know about to cover.

It is very simply worded, has beautiful illustrations for visual learners as well. It is a great overview of world history without getting too bogged down into details. Works great for a variety of age groups...

My Father's World recommends this book for their high school World History course and we trust MFW. We will be using a Charlotte Mason approach with our History class this year and think that this book will make a good "spine."

I am excited to get a history book on our shelves that doesn't give credence to the erroneous idea that humans and life in general somehow evolved over millions of years.
Elania P on Jul 3, 2017
We are using My Father's World this year and this is a required resource for History. I also appreciate that it omits evolution in this version. There are other versions that are less expensive, but I did not want to take the time to figure out which pages to use and omit.
Tatana T on May 25, 2017
Great ! Has photographs, not drawings. No evolution content for those concerned. No mention of young earth creationism either, so great choice for us.

Good overview book before proceeding to focus upon one area of study. Would like to be able to teach child "the big picture" before jumping into the Ancient World from a classical education model. Also like that this is "My Father's World" version.

What period/year in modern history does this go to? Does it include any text or pictures about 9/11? Thanks!
A shopper on May 28, 2020
BEST ANSWER: The last chapter of this book, Chapter 18 (p313), is called One World and covers 1946-2000s. Page 348 is a full page entitled 9/11 and its Aftermath. There are four pictures: the towers on fire, resuce crews walking through rubble, President Bush's address to Congress nine days later, and a picture of prisoners at Guantanamo Bay. This page is the last entry for the Americas. The previous page has a paragraph for 2005, entitled New Orleans Flooded. The most recent event referenced in the whole book, that I can see, is 2007, European Union Expands Again.
Is there a workbook that goes with this?
M R on Feb 19, 2019
BEST ANSWER: No, there is no workbook. This book is an encyclopedia, which works well as a supplement to a textbook or any history curriculum. It does not stand alone as a teaching text. It is well illustrated and each short section of text, which places events in a larger context, can be used to supplement a more detailed textbook.
Are there questions at the end of each chapter?
A shopper on Oct 10, 2018
BEST ANSWER: No. There are no questions, worksheets or quizzes in this book. We found it didn’t work for us as a stand alone curriculum because of this. It works better as a supplement.
Does this include inventions?
User on Jul 8, 2018
BEST ANSWER: No project inventions it is a simple text book. It does include in the history inventions that were significant to the time period and area

I know this one comes much less recommended (for some reason) but this is the ONE in my opinion. It is packed with good, concise information and excellent photos to match. I love this book so much. It's very easy to incorporate with Story of the World as well, just look up the subject in the index. Highly recommend
