Publisher Description:

Science in the Scientific Revolution is the third book in a hands-on, multilevel elementary science series that introduces scientific concepts using history as its guide. It covers the scientific works of natural philosophers from 1543 to the end of the 1600s. Because the course covers science as it was developed, it discusses a wide range of topics including astronomy, human anatomy, medicine, botany, zoology, heliocentrism, geocentrism, gases, pressure, electricity, fossils, microbiology, binary numbers, gravity, conservation laws, and the laws of motion. Throughout the course, the student learns that most of the great natural philosophers who lived during this time were devout Christians who were studying the world around them to learn more about the nature of God.

After much speculation and anticipation, Dr. Jay Wiles new elementary science curriculum is now available, and dare I say, it has been worth the wait! For those unaware, Dr. Jay Wile is the author of the Jr. and Sr. High Apologia Science curriculum which was specifically designed for homeschool family use, and he continues in the same vein with his newest courses.

Designed to be used every other day, each of the curriculum

We are using this book to facilitate our science project/experiment portion during our coop. Families are purchasing the books to have on hand at home to read through the lessons with their students and we will cover 2 projects per class time. It's a great way to add science that also corresponds to our chronological history studies that we do at coop as well.

Absolutely love this series. Super excited to see Rainbow Resource provides a free workbook to download. Hope the newer ones will have some once we get to them!

I am using history as a basis and tie in for all of my other subjects. I am using these so that I can teach science in relation to what was going on in history.

Another Winning Text in this Series!!
We recently finished the 3rd book in Dr. Jay L. Wile's chronological study of elementary science curriculum, entitled, Science in the Scientific Revolution. Our 3rd, 5th and 6th grade children thoroughly enjoyed learning about the scientific findings of the 1500's to the end of the 1600's. We met some of the well known scientists from that age such as Copernicus, Galileo, and Newton, as well as some not so well known but equally influential scientists. As any good natural philosopher would do, we studied concepts that focused on the human body, planets, and laws that govern our universe, to name a few. Being a no nonsense type of educator and mother of 10, I have to admit fun is not my top priority in choosing a science curriculum. However, I can attest that the fun experiments included in each of the 90 lessons showcases the author's objectives remarkably well. I believe the chronological study along with the memorable experiments combined with the age appropriate objective questions at the end of each lesson, engages and cements the concepts for our children. I was surprised to find how much my children did retain even from prior years when Dr. Wile would refer to his other volumes.
We are already looking forward to continuing our chronological study of science with Dr. Wile's next textbook of this series, Science in the Age of Reason.

Teacher friendly, great experiments
I am not science-minded, so at first I was very intimidated by this curriculum. However, as we began, I was pleasantly surprised to find this curriculum to be user-friendly and interesting. We did almost every experiment. They required almost exclusively items you would have on hand, they didn't take long, and they were so helpful in getting the concepts across. Even if you are not a "science person" you can do this curriculum and the experiments! It was so interesting to learn how scientific thinking has changed and grown through the centuries. Great for building critical thinking as well!
