Product Description:

Parents often worry about having to teach a language they don't speak. Never fear Songschool Spanish is here! Classical Academic Press continues its tradition of providing quality, audio-based foreign language instruction with its Spanish offering.

The core of this program lies in the Student Book and CD Set. The audio CD contains 44 tracks set to music (you'll recognize some familiar children's tunes, such as "Where is Thumbkin? and "If You're Happy and You Know It). Spanish and English vocabulary are intermingled in the songs, resulting in a "weave but not an immersion. Most tunes are simple rhythms which repeat the lesson vocabulary. Lots of repetition helps the words stick in the kids' heads. The Student Book follows the vocabulary on the CD. The black and white text has many varied activities and illustrations. The pages contain a balanced mix of text, student writing space, and images (173 pgs, pb.)

There are 31 chapters with the suggested pacing of one chapter/lesson per week. Vocabulary covered includes: greetings, friends, family, house, manners, animals, colors, numbers, body, food, and weather. There is a support website where kids can play vocabulary games in Spanish and another site for parents to get guidance for the program.

The Teacher Edition includes the student book exercise answers, plus parental tips (147 pgs, pb).

Like the other Song School programs, this one wouldnt be complete without a game! Spanish Amigo Match is a flashcard set that contains all the vocabulary from the Song School Spanish lessons (except for review lessons). The deck contains over 210 cards, each labeled (and color-coded) with the corresponding chapter number from the Student Book. Use the cards to play games (ie. Memory, Go Fish, or Carrot Top), or as flashcards.

Learn your lesson phrases from listening to el maestro (the teacher) on DVD! Use this as initial instruction or as a follow up. Listening to a native Spanish speaker is wonderful for pronunciation. The speaker is a lovely lady who is smiles and is encouraging. She speaks clearly and slowly with pauses for your child to repeat the words. There is a video for each of the 24 lessons and navigating the DVD is a cinch. Each lesson is concluded by a little moments segment where you see/hear the vocabulary one more time. There is a lot of English used in the videos which make them very parent friendly. Each lesson lasts around 5 minutes.

The same Audio CD found in the Student Book is now available separately. This is perfect for those of you who don't have time to add a formal curriculum to your schedule, but do have time to listen to the lively songs. Words to the songs are found in the student and teacher books, but the CDs are easily understood, and your children will learn Spanish words as they listen!

Kids want to learn Spanish and this looked less intimidating than Spanish for Children. I hope to do that one when they get a little under their belts.

I purchased this because my 7 yo daughter loved Song School Latin Level 1. She likes languages so I want to introduce her to Spanish. Rosetta Stone Spanish Level 1 is not as fun so I thought I would stick with Song School until she is a little older since it is working for her.

I'm interested in finding out how much Spanish my kids will pick up by listening. The music and lyrics were better than a few others I compared it to.

Do you need to buy the DVD separately?
A shopper on Apr 2, 2022
BEST ANSWER: We didn't buy the DVD. Just the books and the CD were sufficient. Great program, my kids loved it!
What is the copyright? Do you have to buy a workbook for each child or can the pages be legally copied?
A shopper on Oct 20, 2020
BEST ANSWER: The copyright date is 2012. This is considered a consumable book and you will need one for each child.

Amazing Spanish Curriculum / Program- Engaging, Interactive, and Fun!
We are huge fans of this curriculum! I got Songschool Spanish level 1 for my 8 year old beginning 3rd grade and she enjoys it a lot. She explicitly told me she wanted to learn Spanish and has been very into this. She enjoys listening to the cd in the car as well. It doesnt feel like she's being forced to learn because its fun and innovative. There are activities, and book work, but the assignments are short and concise and engaging. The dvd lesson is good too and doesnt take too long to watch. This is definitely worth the little money it costs if you want to introduce a foreign language into your homeschool day. Even my preschooler finds enjoyment in this and is learning! We will be purchasing this 2nd level of this when my girls finish this book!

Lovely, gentle program :-)
I wanted a non-intimidating Spanish program for my kinder and 3rd grader. We started with just the songs in the car. They are pleasant and not too babyish for either kid. We do plan to continue with the 2nd level.

Catchy Songs!
My kids (8 and 10) love this program so far. The songs are catchy and I find them singing them even when we aren't doing school! They have some Spanish experience, but I found it helpful to still start with book 1. They really love the turtle and bunny mascots, and use their puppets that they cut out all the time, even if it's not required. Highly recommend!

Song School Spanish
The children are loving it. The songs are fun and helpful for memorization. Only drawback is that the songs are only on CD, which not all people can play anymore...

My daughter (5 years old) loves this book! I would highly recommend Song School Spanish for those looking for an introduction to Spanish for young elementary children My daughter loves singing all of the new songs each week as well as reviewing all of the other songs The amount of vocabulary introduced each week is not overwhelming and the actual bookwork is relatively short as well I feel like fitting Spanish in is doable because of those facts There is very little prep work on my part I use it with a 7-year-old who enjoys it as well We can also easily listen to the songs in the car I did not feel like the teacher's manual was necessary mostly because I have taken numerous years of Spanish in both high school and college and my husband is a fluent speaker Great program and I can't wait to use other products by the same company and I am hoping a Song School Spanish 2 is released soon!
