Category Description for Wordly Wise 3000 (3rd Ed.):

In the 3rd edition of Wordly Wise 3000 book numbers correspond with typical grade levels (unlike the original edition, Wordly Wise, and the first edition of the 3000 series where it was necessary to add three to the book number to get the grade level). Book 2 includes all the lessons in Book A (1st edition) and lessons 1-7 from Book B (1st edition). It has 15 lessons and 150 vocabulary words. Book 3 includes lessons 8-10 from Book B (1st edition) and all lessons from Book C (1st edition). It also has 15 lessons with 150 words and contains some Greek and Latin root exercises. Students learn 300 new words a year in Books 4-12. Books K and 1 were new with the 2nd edition of the 3000 program, and work just as well with the 3rd edition.

The Student Workbooks contain 20 lessons each with fifteen words. Each lesson includes a Word List with complete dictionary type of entry information, a Finding Meanings exercise (choose two phrases to form a sentence that correctly uses a word), the Just the Right Word exercise (replace a phrase with a single word), an Applying Meanings exercise (using words in context), a Word Study exercise (covers synonyms, antonyms, suffixes, prefixes, and analogies), and a Passage (classic and contemporary authors) with follow-up questions.

The Teacher Resource Books include teacher's guides for the lessons, reproducible tests and reviews, vocabulary activities (including word webs and semantic maps), options for group or individual instruction, pacing options, and answer keys for the tests and Student Book exercises. Tests are designed to prepare students for standardized tests; the format is largely multiple-choice. There are tests for each lesson as well as cumulative midterms and finals. At the upper levels (grade 9-12), each test also features a SAT Sneak Preview section in which additional practice is given in preparation for standardized testing. If you don't think an intensive, thorough teacher guide is necessary, non-reproducible Test Books (with answers) and Answer Keys (for student workbooks) are available separately.

Have an auditory learner? We offer Audio CD sets that correlate to levels 2-12 (no longer available for some levels). These include recordings of each word list to aid pronunciation, along with definitions and comprehension questions, and all reading passages. The number of CDs in each grade level set varies.

The structure of the Kindergarten and 1st Grade Books are a bit different. These vocabulary-building activities include selecting the correct picture in the workbook while the parent reads a story aloud from the teacher pack. Concept and Picture Cards introduce key concepts and words, and the activities prepare students for the kind of content-area reading that they will encounter in later grades. The unique, two-week lesson plans in these beginning books teach and reinforce words and concepts in 20-25 minutes a day. Teacher Packs for K and 1 include extensive lesson plans, Concept and Picture Cards, read-aloud stories and poems, extension and challenge activities, blackline masters, formal and informal assessments for each lesson, assessment checklists and more. At the Kindergarten and 1st Grade levels, these Teacher Packs are a "must-have."

Category Description for Wordly Wise 3000 (All Editions):

Wordly Wise 3000 works. It's a vocabulary-building program that grows with the student, and makes vocabulary acquisition interesting and entertaining. Current editions (4th and 3rd) of Wordly Wise 3000 share a similar format giving interesting word histories, dealing with usage issues, and exposing common usage pitfalls. There are 20 lessons in each level plus five review lessons. Typical lessons contain an alphabetized list of fifteen words (fewer words in lower levels) with a brief, dictionary-type entry for each. These include part of speech, concise definition, and proper usage of the word in the context of an interesting sentence that provides a mnemonic anchor for the word. Following are activity sections which vary slightly with the edition. Crossword puzzles and hidden message puzzles are used for review. The overall word list for the series consists of 3000 words; their selection based on frequency, grade-level literature, textbooks, and SAT-prep books. Course components include a Student Book, an Answer Key, a Test Book, and a Teacher Resource Book. Levels K and 1 of both editions differ a bit from Grades 2-12 levels.

is it the 4th edition?
Man on Feb 15, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Item #014356 - which we have listed without an edition number and which is subtitled "Systematic Academic Vocabulary Development" - has a 2017 copyright. Item #068847 - which we have listed as 2ED and which is subtitled "Direct Academic Vocabulary Instruction" has a 2018 copyright. The only discernible difference between the two editions (other than the subtitles) is the cover. The 2ED has cover art that syncs with the 4ED of WW 3000. The word lists are the same, stories, instruction, etc. All WW books in the 4th edition are subtitled: Direct Academic Vocabulary Instruction.
I have the student book and cards. I only need the teacher book, may I purchase that separately anywhere?
Amy W on Mar 4, 2018
BEST ANSWER: It usually sells as a set which includes the flash cards, concept cards and teacher's manual. You may check out eBay to see if anyone is selling used teacher's manual alone. Hope it helps. God bless!

Wordly Wise 3000 K is a great product! It is actually my son's favorite activity! The student book and vocabulary cards are very colorful and exceptionally durable Along with the stories they really capture my kindergartener's attention The vocabulary cards use pictures on one side and the word on the other This program does not require that the child know how to readThe teacher's book is necessary easy to use and does not require advanced preparation The book is divided into 12 lessons which are each intended to be spread out over two weeks Although the format allows for a lot of flexibility we spend three to four days per week (as organized in the teacher's book) On most days we finish in less than 10 minutesWhen we first began the lessons I was afraid that the concepts and word lists were too simple However I soon discovered that the depth of learning is far greater than I had anticipated--a great language foundation The explanations are very thorough and yet worded well for kindergarteners I have found it helpful that portions of the lesson plans are edThe only part that I have not been impressed with is the "Share a Poem" section Some of them are cute but I have found many of them to be quite useless as they are exceptionally simple and do not often correlate with the vocabulary list and lesson concept as much as I would like Perhaps they would be better received in a large group or classroom setting because they are often action-orientedAll that said my son really loves Wordly Wise! He literally cheers just about every time I bring it out And I have noticed something very interesting: he seems to have changed his perspective on language acquisition He understands more profoundly that words have specific meanings Now he always seems to be asking what unfamiliar words mean Before studying vocabulary in this way he did not seem so curiousWe have completed 11 out of the 12 lessons When my son noticed that we were about to finish his book he was sad and asked if we could do more So I just ordered the first grade materials and we will begin as soon as they arrive He will be so excited! It may be a little expensive but the quality and results are so great that it is well worth the money!

I purchased this curriculum for my kindergartener this year I was immediately impressed with the quality of this product The Concept and Picture Cards are very colorful but most importantly very durable as they're not made of paper but some type of vinyl There is really no prep time for me as a teacher I can just pick up the Teachers Guide and begin It provides ways for the student to engage in the story and has comprehension questions to ask as I read it She is really learning a lot of new words and I'm really pleased with the curriculum's value quality and concept
