Product Description:

These workbooks were designed to be an introduction to the Editor in Chief series. Students first review the rules of grammar and mechanics by answering multiple-choice questions. They then learn to apply these rules by editing stories in a variety of formats. Units cover capitalization, punctuation, run-ons and fragments, dialogue, friendly letters, grammar, usage, and spelling. The last unit combines different types of errors into single exercises to review all of the skills simultaneously. The original Editor in Chief Beginning level will be changing to Beginning 2, and the publishers have created a "pre-quel" for 2nd/3rd grade. ~ Rachel S.

My son is 12 and my husband (being a technical writer professionally), is really adamant about editing skills. We started with Beginning 1 at a fast clip. I think the grade level ratings (for the younger grades) are a bit ambitious, my son would not have been ready for Beginning 1 at grade 2-3. Now that he is truly writing more complex stories and reports on his own he is really ready to dive into this material. We plan to continue through the complete collection of this series.

My son really enjoyed the concepts in the editing book. The lessons are not long, but thorough in teaching different concepts. The short stories are interesting as well.

Easy to use. Not cumbersome. Light.

A curriculum that my child can use to learn grammar independently in 5 minutes a day? Yes please! We have never used a formal grammar curriculum but rather have used a whole language approach with copy work etcSince my son is getting a little older I thought I'd mix things up and make sure he was getting sufficient practice with grammar basics This book fit our needs perfectly The book is laid out simply with a nice introduction to each grammar topic and then several exercises to practice the new topic I especially like the review lessons which allow you to be sure the information is being retained Each morning my 4th grade son is required to independently do one lesson I like the checklist the publisher provides for the errors to be found in each lesson so the student knows exactly what they are looking for and can easily go back and review any topic they are having trouble with There is also a great answer key with explanations in the back of the book so I can check his work simply and help when help is needed Overall I highly recommend this book for anyone looking for a quick and fun way to practice basic grammar
